Draught at the brewpub: Maybe my expectations were too high based on this style being one of my favorites and not a typical offering at a brewpub. Also, Square One seemed to be above the watermark with all the beers I had sampled before ordering a pint of this. The beer pours a pretty brownish-amber color with a foamy tan head that disappears from the center outward. Thin rings of lacing. The aroma contains malt, sherry and cough medicine. Medium-bodied and very malty with alcohol beneath the surface all along. Some smoked peat and fruit flavor as well. The flavor seems to be going in a lot of different directions and is simply not very cohesive. The finish is sweet and earthy malt and fruits. The beer is just average overall.

Sample at the brewpub: This brew is brownish-black and nearly opaque with a medium tan head that has pretty good retention. Patches of lacing. Sweet malt and coffee in the nose. Medium, creamy body that seems thin at times. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. Finishes with bittersweet chocolate and light hops. Aside from not being very robust, this was alright.

Sample at the brewpub: This beer pours a cloudy yellowish-amber color with a minimal white head and spotty lacing. Aroma of bananas and yeast, with hints of spice. Light body with banana, spice and candy flavors along with a pretty solid malt base. The finish sweet clove and malt, and lingers for a bit. Slightly above average overall.

Sample at the brewpub: As with most brewpubs, this is the "gateway" beer to the world of craft beer. Why this selection is almost always a Blond/Light I’m not sure, since most brewpubs tend to be afraid to put too much flavor in it lest it scare away potential customers. This beer is a clear yellow-gold color with tiny bubbles and a compact white head that dissipates pretty quickly. Spotty lacing. Light, effervescent body with mild hops and clean malt flavors. The finish is lightly hopped and short. Standard stuff overall.

Sample at the brewpub: Dark amber color with a medium and fluffy ivory head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Fruity malt aroma with floral hops here and there. Medium body with a clean mouthfeel. Sweet fruit, malt and mild spice flavors. The finish is sweet toasted malt with more sweet spice. Overall this beer is kind of a one-trick pony, yet a passable drink.

Sample at the brewpub: This beer pours a clear yellow-gold color with a thin white head and a top ring of lace and spots underneath. Aroma of yeast and lightly peppery hops. Light-bodied and crisp with zesty spice, hops and fruit flavors. Underlying yeast throughout. The finish is sweetly spiced with a lightly bitter aftertaste. As with the other beers from Square One, this is above average.

Sample at the brewpub: Brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head with fair retention. Rings of lacing on the glass. Hoppy aroma with touches of citrus. Medium-bodied and moderately hoppy with citrus and hops undertones. Hints of pine at times as well. The finish is hoppy and short-lived. Decent all around.

Sample at the brewpub: This beer is a brownish-orange color with a thin bone white head that does not remain for long. Stringy lacing. Hoppy aroma with touches of fruit and toasted malt. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter hops flavor surrounded by citrus and toasted malt. The finish is citrusy hops with a lingering but weak bitterness left over. Above average overall, but not by much.

The aroma is mostly yeast with some spice and citrus. Light, crisp body with tart fruit and spice flavors predominantly, followed by touches of hops and grainy malt. Sample at the brewpub: Pours a slightly hazed pale yellow-gold color with a thin white head that burns off pretty quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass. Spice and citrus in the nose. Light, crisp body with a spicy hops character. Some fruit and malt flavors are present as well. The finish is zesty citrus and spice and leaves a mild lingering bitterness. Pretty good all around.
