Description
The Broad Ripple Brewpub was established in 1990 by Englishman John Hill, born in Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, and his wife Nancy, a Hoosier native. It is Indiana’s very first brewpub (a restaurant that brews its own beer) and the oldest operating brewery in the state. The Brewpub was designed to recreate a typical English pub with its dark wood paneling, leaded stained glass windows, decorative tin ceiling, and cozy fire place. The Brewpub has one of the largest outdoor cafes in Broad Ripple Village, seating up to seventy people.

tap at the brewpub - Pours yellow with a thin white head and has a light, fruity aroma with bready malt. The flavor is sweet malt with some mild hops and fruit accents. It’s light, sweet, and good for what it is.

tap at Mad Anthony Oktoberfest - Pours mostly clear copper with a thin white head. It has a light bready malt aroma. The flavor is of bread and caramel malt with some mild hops that come through very well in the pleasant finish of this medium bodied brew.

Growler from cask at the brewpub. Pours a translucent, slightly watery, dark brownish black with zero head. Smells sweet with malt, some toasted, roast malts but not a whole lot else. Flavor is watery coffee, toast, bread and a little milk chocolate. Light, watery mouthfeel, very little lasting anything. A big miss.

Cask at the brewpub. Pours a hazy, yellow orange with a thin, creamy white head that faded fast. Generous cascade hopping is an understatement. Smells like cascade hops (lemons, grass, grapefruit). Tastes like cascade hops with a little bit of a sweet, candy like malt backing. Bitter on the finish but not overwhelming. Session beer for sure and very drinkable.

draft - Smells very mildly of roast malt with a hint of coffee. The flavor is dark roast malts and coffee. There’s a medium body and a dry finish. It’s okay for the style. rerate, cask pour from the brewpub - It looks great as a good cask pour so often does. The dark body and creamy head are most appetizing. Chocolate malt and some light hops join for a well-rounded flavor in this very enjoyable brew. It’s a major improvement over last time I had it. 7/4/8/4/15. Averaged the scores in my rating above...

draft - Pours coppery with a medium sized head. The aroma is citrus hops. The flavor is a pretty straight up citrus hops IPA with decent balance, though a little lacking in the malts. The finish is moderately bitter. It’s simple, but good.
