The Broad Ripple Brewpub was established in 1990 by Englishman John Hill, born in Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, and his wife Nancy, a Hoosier native. It is Indiana’s very first brewpub (a restaurant that brews its own beer) and the oldest operating brewery in the state. The Brewpub was designed to recreate a typical English pub with its dark wood paneling, leaded stained glass windows, decorative tin ceiling, and cozy fire place. The Brewpub has one of the largest outdoor cafes in Broad Ripple Village, seating up to seventy people.
From a sampler: This beer is a clear gold color with a thin white head. Very little lacing. The aroma is Lager-ish. Light-bodied and mildy hoppy throughout, but not much else going on flavor-wise other than hints of malt here and there. The finish is kind of docile as well. I understand why the name, as this is an unexciting but drinkable beer.
Looks great served in a tall glass: slightly cloudy and yellow gold with a large fluffy head. Citrusy/lemony aroma and flavor. Crisp and refreshing with a dryish finish. A nice beer if not a little too clean - somewhere between a good German weiss and the cleaner American wheats.
