About
Established in 1719, Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest working brewery. With abundant local barley, fine water from the brewery well and access to markets up and down the coast, Belhaven was the perfect place for a brewery back then, and it still is today. In 1719, Dunbar market gardener John Johnstone erected a brewery close to Belhaven Bay and founded a brewing dynasty which was to last for 250 years and a brewery which would last much longer. The brewery and maltings persevered through the wars and upheavals of the early 20th Century and was eventually sold by John Johnstone’s descendants in 1972. In 2005 is was taken over by Greene King who kept the Brewery open in Scotland.

De aspecto es preciosa, negra opaca con destellos rubies , espuma extremadamente cremosa bien retenida. Aroma a malta tostada, guinda, algo de chocolate... Cuerpo ligero, poco carbonatada, la espuma (bendita espuma) aporta toque cremoso al trago, notas de cacao, dátiles, ciruelas pasas, malta tostada...No es muy compleja pero si muy agradable, esta bien, me gusta. Repetiria sin duda

Draught at Skaal Sønderborg. Citric aroma. Clear brown colour. Small white head. The flavour is citric. Hint of old rag. Still drinkable, but not what I would expect from a brown ale. I suspect Skaal have not cleaned their lines properly.

Draught @ SKAAL Sønderborg. Pours slightly hazy light copper brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of infected beer, all sour. Ditto flavour. Rough aftertaste with malty hints. Needs re-rating.

Bottle from a shop in Leipzig. Medium Brown, small head, biscuit caramel nose. Lightly sweet malt flavor, nutty with marsh-reminiscent bitterness & aftertaste, not overly sweet. Pretty decent.

Cask. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is bready and toffeeish malts, some floral notes. Flavour is toffee, some floral, mild herbal and grassy notes.
