Draft at the source (see pic). Clear ruby maroon color, white edge head. Aroma of light spice, but odd sour and bitter combo. Taste of lightly spiced brown bread.

Probably the best of the beers I sampled at Bubes (pronounced boobies) tonight. Lightly flavored roastiness. Very dark in appearance. Very mild for a schwartz and I like that. Well amnnered and friendly, love these easy going balck beers. Goes down in a smooth way. HAs a slight building bitterness about it but never gets in your face. Leaves a mild medicinal finish. Somewhat flat tho there is a detectable amount of fine co2 in there.

Yes, alt in many attributes, cannot be mistaken. Quite dark but not hazy. A little bitter initially as alts should be. Has a slight medicine effect during the session. Some mild co2 but overall it is not over the top, just a mannered alt fer sure. Rather well behaved and the smell is a little volatile.

I am not easily impressed with these spicey holiday beers. I know they have a following but I just cannot deveop a taste for them. Mild spicey aroma. Quite dark, almost ruby red in appearance. First taste is mild medicinal spices. Other malty spices morph from the other spices. Not over the top like so many of those holiday cheers and I appreciate that. Does not hide the alky well. Medium long alky laced finish. Must be over 7%.

Unlike most red ales, this one actually is a little red, orangish red if that. So many so called red beers are not red at all but amber or brown. Slight flowery aroma. Slight bitterness on the palate but not obnoxious to say the least. For the most part well behaved. Yes, a tad of those ale attributes are present but overall a pretty good beer experience. Nicely done for a red ale. Many manners and much refined.

If you like heavy hard hitting IPA, ignore my numbers because this is terribly on style for such a beer. I just don’t care for this style and I rate em as I like em. Slight hop aroma, less than expected for this type of brew. Darker red orange color. Yes, big and strong from the start. However, I’m not sure if it gets into the middle of a double IPA style. Perhaps its because ofthe freshness. Very little co2 but what is there makes it a little palatable to this lager lovers tastebuds. As session continues, that notorious mouth coating buildng back of throat medicinal soapy ipa thing starts to happen and never goes away. Tes, terribly on style for an ipa and it’s fresh!

A deep dark brown porter with a thin off white head. In aroma, smooth peaty chocolate, with chlaky notes. In mouth, a smooth porter with light chocolate, herbaceous notes, nice light bitterness, not bad. On tap at brewpub, April 8th, 2011.

A hazed yellow ale with almost no head. In aroma, sweet terpentine, herbaceous, tangerine, honey, a bit cloying. In mouth, a sweet honey malt, with light frankincense, a bit too sweet, alcohol warmth hidden by overload of sweet malt. On tap at brewpub, April 8th, 2011.
