bottle, traded with pivero - Thanks a lot! Deep bronw colour, nearly black, beige head. Sweetish-smoky nose. Caramel, dark malts, roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of smoke are detectable. The smoke flavours are not as intensive as in a Franconian Smoked, but add a nice touch to this beer. Perhaps a bit sweet, but nevertheless pleasant.

Bottle @ Pivovarsky Klub, Prague. Pours clear golden with a creamy white foam and lacings. Nose and flavor is grass, butter and buiscuit. Vaguely metallic edge. Palate is smooth. Dry and hoppy end. Very nice!

Bottle from a store in Cesky Krumlov. Seems to be a lighter type of lager, but the color is a solid golden yellow, not light by any means, although not really close to amber. Good head; thick and creamy. Strong aroma of malt, slightly oily or buttery, slightly sweet, something like raisins. First struck by the very hoppy flavor, and then the malt richness that comes after, with a touch of sweetness. The balance is very good, and both malt and hops are there in the finish, with the hops lasting much longer. They are not over strong, but good and solid. An enjoyable, well-balanced, and easy drinking beer. I would like it more if it had a touch more malt in it.

Bottle bought in Cesky Krumlov. Dark brown—almost black, but with a tan-colored head. The strong, rich aroma is sweet, malty, with caramel and cookies. A slightly roasted aroma, but not very strong. Head vanishes quickly. Flavor: very burnt; dry, with a bit of sweetness, but a good amount of hops as well. Lots of coffee, some chocolate, a little caramel in the taste (not as strong as in the nose). The finish is very burnt and has a lot of hops as well. Coffee lingers as well. It doesn’t last very long, but medium or better. Body is medium to full. I really like this beer, as it is perfectly balanced. The malt is there, but there is so much better hopping than in a lot of German or Austrian dunkels. Really almost like a bottom-fermented dry stout.

Bottle bought in Cesky Krumlov. Gold to slightly amber color. Nice head. Rather thick, solid, and creamy. Aroma of malt, grass, and some cardboard and a touch of hops. Malt comes up front, a bit sweet with some fruit and caramel, and grass. The cardboard flavor is also there. Then quite a bit of hops at the end. Bitter finish lasts moderately long, and it relatively strong. Good balance. I like it a lot, although the cardboard edge, which wasn’t there on tap, is a bit annoying.

0.5l bottle brought from Slovenia by ogivlado who shared it with me (thanks!) Poured a very dark red, almost black, body with a small off white head that went away fast. The nose is dominated by caramel, dry and woody. Dry, roasty malty taste, light, slightly yoghurty. Not all that sweet and whoa. Someone has already put it down as a Schwarzbier. Nice call.

0.5l bottle brought from Slovenia by ogivlado who shared it with me (thanks!) Poured a golden body with a small white head. The nose was a pleasant surprise, distinctly malty notes of rice crispies like some of the best BPs there are. Quite pungent. The taste, however, didn’t follow. Or actually it did, the rice crispies persisted inside some sweet maltiness but it all ended with a crude, all too simple and not too enticing hoppy finish that went a little into the aftertaste. Could’ve possibly been a classic with a better hop profile. Just shows how much hops make the difference.
