Draught at the Brewpub, April 2011 Pitch black color with a pretty tan head, fine, glowing. Aroma of cocoa, café au lait, roasted malts, wood, lactic. Big creamy flavor, sweet but roasty, slightly sour, with a lactic edge. Smooth and full. Not too carbonated. Nice.

Draught at the Brewpub, April 2011. Fruity aroma of American hops: grapefruit, honey, nice. Deep, cloudy amber-orange color. Big citrus flavor with grapes, sweet but quickly moving to an original, earthy, dirty, and bitter finish. Huge, dirty, bitter after taste. Nice and original, though still not that well integrated and a little rough.

Draught at Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, 2011. Wild yeast beer made with yeast from a cherry tree. Funky aroma of wheat, some banana, spicy yeast. Pale pastel gold color. Dry citrus flavor, funky, with wheat. Creamy and rich, and rather sweet but with a nice dry finish. Not perfect but interesting.

Draught at the Brewery. Deep darkish gold, cloudy, with orange tints and lots of bubbles. Aroma of crackers, cookies, banana and citrus, cloves. Relatively fruity, with good citrus. Sweet and creamy, with lots of banana and wheat malt and a good sour tang. Too much carbonation, though--prickly, actually. Also way too cold. Nice taste overall, with good balance, but too gassy.

Draught at the Great Japan Beer Festival 2009. Nice, fruity, cherry aroma. Lots of alcohol in the mouth, though. Lots of hops. Harsh but interesting. Light body, very estery. Nice looking orange color.

Draught at the Great Japan Beer Festival 2009. A useless fruit syrup drink. Sweet-and-sour nastiness. Cloying and not nice at all. They should stick to all-malt lagers.

Bottle. Nearly black, with a tall tan head. Sweet malt aroma, roasted but not burnt, rich and thick, creamy, caramel, molasses, a touch of chocolate. Sweet, rich malt flavor. Slightly burnt like a stout, but just a touch. Thick, rich and creamy. Malt complexity close to classic dubbel bock, maybe not quite there, but very nice. Chocolate in the background, and slight alcohol heat. Finish is malty and rich with alcohol heat to balance. I like this beer- it is very well done, much better than their Christmas Bock, which tasted like a stout. This is probably the most authentic Japanese bock I’ve tried.
