Bottle from Yamaoka. Nose of roasty cocoa, chocolate, cream, a touch of berries. Big cocoa, not quite burnt. Almost black with a tall, fine head. Roasty flavor, lightly woody, with cocoa and coffee. Rather sweet, rich umami, but ends semi-dry with a bit of burnt malts. Slightly fruity with some cola flavors. Tasty enough, though not very special.

Very fruity light, moderately hoppy, clovely. Refreshing, a definite twist on a typical American wheat, but decent.

Draught at Q-Brick. Nice spicy hop aroma, grassy, hay, pine, caramel. Big caramel flavor, quite sweet, grassy hops, and a nice, bitter, peppery finish. Decent. Well balanced, though really quite like a malty ESB.

Draught at the Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki. Aroma is slightly hoppy with rich malts and wheat. Flavor similar. Light bitterness, wheat is the star, thicker and richer than the regular wheat ale, with a bit less bitterness. Smooth, full mouth. Decent, not all that exciting.

Draught at Wachi. Deep gold with a tall, fine, fluffy head. Clean light aroma of pilsner malt, citrus, a bit of honey and cream. Decent. Ok malt flavor with good enough hops—not powerful, but nicely used. Citrus, ok bitterness, a touch of unneeded butter, some nice crackers. Decent—a bit too creamy and sweet, but pretty good and drinkable.

Bottle from Yamaoka san. Aroma of caramel, earth, chocolate, and hops that are like minerals with a touch of grass and grapefruit. Munich malt character is dominant. Slightly fruity. Deep amber with a thick, fine, off-white head. Rich caramel flavor, malty, with chocolate. A bit of citrus hop flavor, with pretty decent bitterness. Hops are there, and the bitterness is enough, though they really don’t do much in terms of scent or flavor. Malt-driven. decently balanced and drinkable with nice munich malt flavor, though not really all that interesting.
