Description
Holy Mountain is a brewery and taproom located in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle, founded by co-owners Colin Lenfesty and Mike Murphy in 2014. The influence of oak has always been the focus of the majority of beers brewed at Holy Mountain. A sizable building near the Seattle waterfront has allowed the team to build a vast stock of oak barrels, puncheons, and foudres used for both primary fermentation as well as long-term aging.

The proximity of the brewery to the Yakima Valley also allows the team of brewers to utilize hops from the best producers in the world, constantly exploring the relationship between hops, oak, and mixed fermentation. Holy Mountain doesn't offer any year-round beers, which creates an ever-changing lineup in the brewery taproom. In addition to oak-influenced beers, Holy Mountain also offers a wide range of rotating, hop-forward ales and lagers.

Dark brown. Fairly big umami, almost a rye character. On the palate, has a light fruitiness maybe from the rum, with a lot of the big soy umami stuff. Has a bit of richness to it, the rum bringing an interesting liveliness to the finish. This is definitely high quality.

16.9 oz. bottle, pours black with a tiny tan head. Aroma has intense woody bourbon barrels, a touch of rum, medium roast, and molasses. Flavour is wonderfully complex, with a lovely combo of bourbon and rum barrels, wood, roasted malt, and dark sugars. Phenomenal barrel character accentuating that deep malt. Fantastic.

Poured from 650mL bottle (11th anniversary - 2026 vintage). Very dark brown with almost no beige head. Excellent bourbon and rum barrel blend with nice dark sugars and light roast malt. Enjoyable.

500mL bottle. Pours black with no head. Huge bourbon and rum barrels on the nose with lots of dark malts. Flavour has a ridiculous amount of bourbon barrels, burnt sugars, dark rum notes, burn bread crusts. Intense malts integrated insanely well with the barrels. This is phenomenal.

16 oz. can, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma is full of floral dry-hopping, rustic saison yeast, a touch of booze, and some citrus peel. Flavour is citrusy and tangy, with plenty of floral, citrusy dry-hopping, citrus peel, and a nice rustic saison yeast. Quite tart and citric, but tastefully so. The higher ABV is felt but it’s integrated. Very good.

Bottle. Pours clear straw, medium white head, good lacing. Aroma is dusty, hay, brett. Flavor is dry, sharp, brett, mineral notes, hint of lemon. Lint lingering aftertaste. This one did not improve with age. Light body, high carbonation

Taster showing dark gold with a finger of clean white foam.

The nose shows moderately intense tart notes of ripe juicy nectarine.

The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Moderately tart with light notes of nectarine and hints of banana ala weizen.

Bottle at home from trade. It’s a black pour with some coconut floaters. Damn. Then I smell it. Lovely bourbon with coconut in a great way. Real coconut, not the suntan lotion crap you get with too many beers nowadays. The bourbon and vanilla is rich and decadent. Cocoa and chocolate in a lovely boozy but not over the top way. Best coconut bourbon RIS I’ve had since Prop ‘13. This is a damn treat for sure. A nice semi thick texture seals the deal. Thank you, and good night!

500mL bottle, pours black with almost no head. Nose is full of pumpkin spices, pumpkin puree, big bourbon, and treacly dark sugars—somehow in good cohesion. Flavour is rich and decadent, somehow blending in the pumpkin/autumn spices beautifully with the bourbon and rich dark sugar. This has got to be the best spiced stout I’ve had in recent memory, if not ever. Everything works together harmoniously, and there’s incredible depth. Beauty.
