Description
Holy Mountain is a brewery and taproom located in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle, founded by co-owners Colin Lenfesty and Mike Murphy in 2014. The influence of oak has always been the focus of the majority of beers brewed at Holy Mountain. A sizable building near the Seattle waterfront has allowed the team to build a vast stock of oak barrels, puncheons, and foudres used for both primary fermentation as well as long-term aging.
The proximity of the brewery to the Yakima Valley also allows the team of brewers to utilize hops from the best producers in the world, constantly exploring the relationship between hops, oak, and mixed fermentation. Holy Mountain doesn't offer any year-round beers, which creates an ever-changing lineup in the brewery taproom. In addition to oak-influenced beers, Holy Mountain also offers a wide range of rotating, hop-forward ales and lagers.

Poured from 650mL bottle (2024 vintage). Dark brown with minimal beige head. Allspice and nutmeg with a light bourbon underlay, balanced, feint chocolate, nice spiced BA imperial stout.

500mL bottle. Pours very dark brown with no head. Dark chocolate, bourbon barrels, dark brown sugar, and nutmeg on the nose. Flavour has loads of winter spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice; dark chocolate, dark sugars. Fantastic integration of the spices with the malty base beer.

Capped 500 from Tavour. Bottle foamed over a bit. Pour was translucent gold with a enthusiastic but transient white head. Aroma has pepper and some pale stone fruit. Med body. Fruity but astringently dry. Lightly acidic. A little yeasty. Perhaps a little tannic. Sadly Brett doesn't seem in the mix.

16 oz. can, pours a crystal clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma is fairly restrained, with some gentle pine, light allium, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp, with gentle hoppy bitterness that doesn’t have much character and a crisp biscuity malt base. Huh, this is remarkably timid for a hop-forward Holy Mountain beer. It’s clean and drinkable but not very interesting.

500ml (thx, Alex for getting it, Joe to keep it, and Josh to bring it 😂) @ 🏡 shared with Josh discussing the trip to visit the Festival of Dark Arts 2026 - Astoria.
Aroma: the smell from the bottle was amazing like a coconut-vanilla-chcocolate cake. From the glass the American oak notes are more noticeable with chocolate and coconut still being noticeable.
Taste: along the same lines, some roasted malt notes, too. A lot of coconut and chocolate. Noticeably sweeter, than most of the HM stouts.
Overall: very nice.

Pours quite dark, inky, not much head. The aroma is fantastic, lots of bourbon, rich chocolate, light brown sugar accents, and some toasted coconut as well. Good body, loaded with coconut. There's a bit of vanilla, lots of chocolate. The bourbon lends some alcohol in the finish, which cuts the sugars a bit. Beautiful balance. Excellent barrel treatment. Fantastic stuff.

On tap at Ridgewood, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of hopburn and muddled earthiness. Flavour is rather muddled, with moderate hopburn, some oniony notes, and moderate chalk. Far from HM’s best work—not a good hazy, though far from the most egregiously chalky ones out there.

On tap at Holy Mountain - Phinney Ridge, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of nectarines upfront, with saline (I guess from the oyster shells?), gentle oak, and some bugs. Flavour is much the same, with lots of juicy nectarines, complex bugs, minerality, saline, and oak. Mineraly, juicy mouthfeel, with a great buggy finish. Excellent.

On tap at Holy Mountain - Phinney Ridge, pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma has plenty of saison yeast, gentle esters, and light floral hops. Flavour is light, revealing a very nice saison yeast character, moderate bittering hops, and floral notes. Very nice yeast character—not super complex, just gently expressed, finishing dry and bitter. Very good.
