On tap at Ibaraki Bakuon. An opaque gold with a filmy white head quite good looking. It has a light fruity and weizen clove aroma. The taste is a solid wheatiness with light cloves and a certain breadiness. I am not a huge fan of wheat beers but this is pretty decent.

Tap. Deep, cloudy orange-brown color. Aromas of caramel, or more like toffee, stone fruits, and some phenols. Syrupy and tangy, very sweet and fruity at first, a bit bitter in the end. Something not really right here.

On tap at the Kyoto Beer Festa 2014. A fairly solid pils with no major off-flavors whatsoever but nothing to really elevate it to the next level. Solid hoppy aroma with a good malt base, lots of biscuit. A good pils.

On tap at the 2014 Kyoto Craft Beer Festa. Brewed at Chitei Ryoko, a nice big banana & cloves yeasty aroma. Nice glowing gold color. Nice spicy clove weizen flavor on a nice full body. Really nice stuff.

Tap at 2014 Kyoto Zest beer festival. Nose of orange, lemon, some apricots, banana, clove, and a touch of cinnamon. Sweet and very fruity citrus, peach, melon. Very cloudy, orange gold color with a high head. Great fruit flavors, great body. Excellent. Finally after 5 long years the Miyoshi Becken magic is back! Great beer.

Tap at 2014 Kyoto Zest beer festival. Juicy malt nose, biscuit, a tiny bit of diacetyl, Czech style. Deep gold, clear, low head. Sweet and malty flavor, lemon, bread and biscuits. Well done. Could do with a touch more hopping, aroma and bitterness. Full, smooth body with light carbonation. Good start.

Miyajima beer, 4.5%, can from Rakuten. It pours a light copper gold with a thin fizzy head which dissipated fast. The aroma is malty caramel with a minor sour wine yeasty/fruity vibe. Medium to light bodied with a slick mouthfeel. The taste is malty, light caramel, a touch of nuttiness, with a tangy finish. Possibly this is an alt? Looking around online I found this can listed as a pilsner though none is listed on ratebeer so I am guessing the can is the kolsch version??? As you can see this beer is a bit of a mess, it is all over the place, and is fairly disappointing. As a kolsch it is too malty, as a pale ale it isn’t all that hoppy but I guess it could be british style pale ale. According to their facebook page they’re now making a pilsner but this doesn’t look like a pilsner either. Not a terrible beer per se but definitely sub-par. It’s solidly in the world of omiyage beers, it is frustrasting they don’t list the style of beer this is on their website or facebook page. It is just listed as their regular as opposed to their pale ale...
