Description
In 2012 it happened that Johannes Heidenpeter, master brewer and owner of Heidenpeters, was allowed to enjoy an English porter by chance. He liked it so much that he started brewing at home, experimented a little and delighted his friends and acquaintances with great beers. The decision to open his own micro-brewery quickly grew in him. The trained artist, who graduated from the art college in Berlin, finally got to know the operators of the Markthalle Neun in Berlin-Kreuzberg and had them taste his beers. They were also immediately enthusiastic and an agreement was reached. With some borrowed money, Johannes went to work and tinkered with his own small brewery. In the meantime, Johannes Heidenpeter brews his creations on a small scale directly in the cellar of the Markthalle Neun.

Bottle mail-order from www.biershop.bierpost.com. Dark brown coloured beer with a large (over-flowing) beige head. Very lively in bottle. Chocolate malt and vanilla aroma. Semi-sweet, light bitterness, medium body, slightly oily texture. Initially lively carbonation soon became soft. Much enjoyed.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, ruby amber colour with a beige and firm foamy head. Mildly toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, as well as a delicately sour touch and fruity (berries, cassis, umeboshi), also slightly woody hoppy notes, accompanied by yeasty spice. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a well-carbonated, slightly spritzy mouthfeel. Slightly dark malt character with hints of caramel combined with a present fruitiness; moderately sweet, fruity and slightly tart finish with a fruity and delicately resiny hoppy aftertaste. Moreish. 03.VI.14

Tap at Festival der Bierkulturen. Slightly cloudy, yellow golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Lemon and sage aroma. Taste is slightly tart, hints of lemon and sage; after deliberation the scale pan shows a vinegar (infection?) inclination. Definitely more "verbockt" als "bockig".
