Description
Brasserie du Bocq was set up in 1858 by Martin Belot. The Brewery was incorporated into a limited company in 1949. Independent of any Belgian or foreign brewer, it still beholds its own family nature. Located in the heart of the Condroz, wonderful tourist region, this dynamic company still uses the traditional manufacturing process of top-fermentation beers with secondary fermentation in the bottle.

In 1983, Brasserie du Bocq abandons the exploitation of Central Brasserie Marbaix -La-Tour, to bring all the beer production back to Purnode where the production tools have been radically modernized on the basis of equity. Today in Purnode, although the Belot family has sold its assets to the Keersmaekers family who has been producing the Corsendonk at the Brasserie du Bocq for over 30 years, and even though the brewery has far exceeded its regional framework, nothing has changed and the values of the company remain intact.

(Bottle 33 cl) Du Bocq has been busy changing the labels of their Gauloise beers. This is the 3rd or 4th edition in about 10 yrs. But this time, the brewery also turned down the volume from 9% to 8,1%. In my opinion, that makes it a new beer. Dark amber or light brown with a very large head. Sweet, but not nauseating. A definite bitterness creates a nice balance. Good fruit. A nice beer. Had this for the first time in ’93 when it was simply called "La Gauloise" at 7% ABV. The amber and blond versions are younger siblings. 010902 Older versions at 160893 and 010597.

Hazy nut brown, not much head. Woody, earthy nose, some red currant berry aroma (similar to Silly Saison). Earthy, woody flavor. Dry mouthfeel. Light to medium-bodied. Refreshing but not very enjoyable.

An unclear dark orange beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of spices and berries. The flavor is malty with notes of coriander and yeast leading to a dry end. The body is surprisingly thin.

Hazy blond color; poor head. Poor aroma: paper, a bit sour, fermented (rotten) fruits. Some sweetness and fruitness, but nothing more than just drinkable. Maybe too sweet in the middle. Average bitterness.

Bottle. Malty, slightly metallic aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour, big unstable head. Flavour is full, malty, roasted, salty. Nice mouthfeel, goes down well. I do not know why people are so hard on this beer, I like it.
