Description
Bøgedal is Scandinavia’s only all-gravity brewery and is boiled over an open fire using local wood as fuel. Bøgedal’s brewing method is an attraction in itself, since the brew flows freely (all gravity), from vat to vessel, without pumping, creating different levels by use of hand-powered hoists and pulleys.

750ml. Comes in a stylish bottle with a popping champagne cork that tried to go through the roof when being opened. Almost black in colour. Solid brownish foam with lots of bubbles. Marked aroma of chocolate. Dark flavour of roasted barley and dark chocolate. Fine bitter aftertase. An almost fullbodied brown ale (Thanks to CinnamonGirl for bringing this to a drinking session at Sommarøy, 25.08.2006)

(Bottle 75 cl) Slightly hazy pilsener golden with a tiny, white head. A bit low in carbonation. Vaguely fruity nose. Full-bodied albeit the 8.5% ABV is scaringly well hidden. Lightly perfumy and very fruity flavours dominating this brew. Short, dry finish. Quite a lovely Bøgedal. 260106

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazy amber with a creamy, off-white head. Sweetish, malty aroma with a wee, floral touch. Soft mouthfeel with some sweet malt and notes of honey. Not that different from the 31. 151105

(Bottle 75 cl) Dark amber colour, slightly hazy with a small, creamy, off-white head. Huge bottle sediment. Very malty with distinct fruity notes from the yeast. Weak toffee notes. Yet rather dry with a very bitter finish. Perhaps the most bitter Bøgedal I’ve had so far. Quite interesting. 180605
Earlier Rating: 8/23/2005 Total Score: 3.4
(Bottle 75 cl) Light brown, very unclear, bubbly carbonation - odd. Typical fruity esters - notes of banana. Quite sweetish and very full-bodied with distinct notes of caramel. I detect a lot of Belgian inspiration here. Very classical Bøgedal. 210405

[Bøgedal nr. 43 fad] A deep red beer with a lazing orange head - clearer and lighter than the non cask matured version. The flavor is sweet and rather fruity, but also with notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as light notes of red wine and straw, leading to a dry end with a slight wine bitterness. The mouthfeel is very rounded and mellow. This beer has evolved a lot from the 3 months in a redwine cask.

[Bøgedal nr. 42] A hazy red beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and so is the flavor too, but in the flavor light notes of wood also appear. The end is dry.
