Description
Bøgedal is Scandinavia’s only all-gravity brewery and is boiled over an open fire using local wood as fuel. Bøgedal’s brewing method is an attraction in itself, since the brew flows freely (all gravity), from vat to vessel, without pumping, creating different levels by use of hand-powered hoists and pulleys.

[Bøgedal nr. 44 fad] A hazy dark orange-red beer with a nice white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of caramel and oranges, as well as light woody notes. The flavor is very well rounded with primary notes of straw, but also light notes of alcohol and wood, the woody notes gains in strength in the aftertaste. It has surprisingly little accent from the wood barrel aging, but I do find it a bit more rounded in the flavors than the bottle conditioned version.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a a hazy pale amber with a small, off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel. Medium-bodied, notes of sweet caramel and a rather bitter finish. Apart from a slightly fusty edge there’s really no sign of this beer being matured in wooden casks for more than 3 months. Not a bad beer but rather disappointing that the barrelling didn’t really make any improvement. 110606

(Bottle 75 cl) Nr. 43 fad Pours very dark brown with a haze and a tint of red. Creamy, beige head. Lightly vinous nose with distinct oak. Medium body, hard roasted maltiness with a burned edge. Distinct flavours of the oak hiding some of the burn. Lovely. Thanks to Ungstrup for sharing. 180506

Dark brown color with ruby shades. The aroma is slightly herbal, with some caramel. Medium body, some malt, caramel, spices; maybe also the orange peels… Quite pleasant Christmas beer.
