Bottle, 7C. Pale yellow with a slight green tinge. White head fades a bit, but sticks around longer than mousse does. And the aroma is pretty convincing too - crackery, slight yeast, grassy melony blanc de blancs notes. No heady boozy notes though. All _very_ clever. And then not so great. Sweet, grainy and a bit husky with moderate but rough bitterness. Some grass and gooseberries. The soft creaminess of Champagne that was almost convincingly aped in the aroma doesn’t really come through in the texture. Holds the alcohol remarkably well. This is really clever and for me a more rewarding drink than a ~ $A35 bottle of sparkling wine, but I don’t love it.

330ml bottle into middie glass. Hoppy nose with some malt. Cloudy golden amber, creamy small head. Little carbonation. Bitter taste with even more bitter aftertaste. There’s some toasted malt and alcohol notes mixed in there. Not really a lager, not really a pils, not an IPA. Interesting but not really enjoyable.

Pours dark amber, small head.Nose shows full-on saffron, orange marmalade and bready malt. Very sweet-smelling, incredibly potent.Similar sweet and boozy flavours. Again, lots of marmalade notes and saffron. A little medicinal.Pretty crazy and interesting stuff, even if it was a bit of a struggle to get through!

I don’t need to see a video of the brewers putting in their peeled redskins as evidence. You get a big redskin aromas as soon as you swirl it in the glass, and it takes a while before you start to get those stout flavours of coffee as well as a little hop bitterness. It’s slightly less overpowering in the mouth, the redskins being matched by an earthy coffee taste that I quite like. Not bad, but in the end I feel like I paid ten bucks for a bunch of guys to stand around peeling redskins.

Really missed a trick with the name here - how could this not be called The Merkin? Bottle, 11C. Clear copper with a rapidly fading beige head that just hangs on at the rim. Boozy (but not brashly so) aroma of dried fruit, whisk(e)y, vanilla, gentle spices. Medium bodied, lowish carbonation. Sweet toffee, raisins, vanilla. Whisk(e)y is there particularly at the end but it’s quite light and grassy and melds well with a surprising delicate floral note. Seeing as that makes the beer, glad I didn’t wait until winter to drink it. Good and surprisingly subtle.

Pours black with a massive head.Nose shows sweet bready malt, nutty and toast notes, cocoa.More cocoa as a flavour, some subtle salt, soft booze and dry roast.

(Bottle) Hazy golden with big loose off-white head. Very pleasant aroma - caramel with fresh fruits - citrus and pineapple - maybe a buttery hint the background. Medium body with lots of carbonation, maybe a tad too much. The taste is unusual, and to me does not really work. The start is pleasant, fresh, fruity over some soft light caramel sweetness. This all sort of gets lost in the mid palate - it’s not that it lacks flavour here just that it’s rather confused. Then a big aggressive bitterness appears and hangs around a long time. It seems a bit confused too - in part it has some refreshing crisp aspects, but it also has some harsh aspects. Overall, an interesting experiment, but not one that could really be called a success.

(Bottle) Cloudy with plenty of floating matter and a small loose white head - not terribly appealing to look at. Subtle tangy fruity aroma, more ice lolly than beer - unusual but pleasant. Full body, slightly syrupy but well carbonated - again unusual and pleasant. The taste - what can I say? Unusual and pleasant. It’s also complex and changes in the mouth. The start is sweet fruit and malt with fresh tangy fruitiness to balance. Peppery spice notes develop and then in the finish a big bitter taste develops very late and stays around. Overall, you guessed it, an unusual and pleasant beer.

This beer is dominated by a flavour of coriander and parsley, which is really not my thing. There’s plenty of hops to like about it, but I just can’t get that aftertaste out of my mouth.
