Description
To say we're 'born to brew' may seem like a bold statement, but after dedicating over 150 years to the art of brewing, we believe it's true.
Coopers is a brewing family. Its in our blood. For six generations we've been custodians of a proud legacy that began in 1862 when Thomas Cooper brewed his first batch of ale. Our passion for brewing has kept us together and helped us through economic recessions, wars, government imposts, changing tastes, and the occasional hostile takeover bid.
Today, our unique brand of naturally conditioned ales and stouts are enjoyed around the world and we're still making these beers using the same traditional brewing methods that Thomas did. And when we say hand-made by the Cooper family', we mean it. If you visit the Brewery you'll probably bump into a Cooper who works there. While other breweries might make all sorts of claims about their 'origins' the fact is that we are Australia's oldest family owned and run brewery, and that's not changing anytime soon.

Straight from the bottle, from the discount shelf at Fountainhall Wines, Aberdeen. It is probably pale yellow/gold/blonde with a white head of some sort. The aroma is fairly dull, muted, papery, grass, green, toasty grain and some sweet rich tea biscuit. The taste is dry upfront, fairly crisp, bitter - sweet, grassy, leafy, green veg, rich tea biscuit, grain, slightly soapy, musty and earthy with a dry, grainy/veggy finish. Average body and carbonation. This is some basic stuff. Would not return to it.

It's back! On tap! At Sydney Airport! 4.8% Smells like a macro lager, looks like a macro lager, tastes like a 'Coopers' version of a macro lager. Like a Tooheys New made with Coopers yeast. Not sure what sort of beer drinker would like this. Curious.

If it lasts I suppose this one will be Coopers Cyan. Can. Clear gold with a good cm of white head. Aroma is weedy with light bread. So much for new world hops. Perhaps a little peach in the background. Clean with crackers and a little breadcrust, firm weedy bitterness.

Keg at the Mitre Tavern, Melbourne. Hardly a pale ale and more of a lager with some interesting more aley tones - perhaps the yeast? Saved some dollars and will need to try again.
