Tap at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy tan head and a little broken lace. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee. The flavour is moderate bitter with a rich dry earthy, coffee malt, light liqourice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A little light for a stout but plenty of flavour and it went down very well I must say.

Bottle @ de Molen, small sample. Hazy amber to light brown color, short rocky head. Aroma is quite spicy, sweet caramel, toffee, slight alcohol, raisin. Quite sweet in taste, like a blend of a quadrupel and a barley wine, but with lots of belgian yeast spicyness. Tasted this one blind and although it had some minor flaws, I did enjoy it.

Tap at the brewpub. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is big yeast, light malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a crisp yeast alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A little one dimensional and totallly dominated by the yeast and the alcohol. Not a bad beer, but it’s a style that has had its day.
