Description
The first real malting statute was confirmed by the municipal council of Iglau, as the town of Jihlava was called till 1948, in 1579. In 1859, all 123 owners of brewing rights in the town and surrounding villages joined in a new brewery, the present Jihlava Brewery. The brewery in Jihlava was opened in 1861, but the brewery considers the year 1860 as the year of its incorporation. From its incorporation the brewery had mainly German owners. After WWII it was nationalised and then privatised in 1995. In 2008 the almost bankrupt brewery was bought by the Pivovary Lobkowicz group. Under the new owners the brewery returned to the production of beer according to old original recipes.

Bottled 500ml. -Brown coloured, medium sized cappuccino head, mild grainy caramel nose. Quite watery with weak notes of malt and caramel. Touch of vinuos roastiness in the finish. Didn’t like at all.

Bottled 500ml. -Dark golden/orange coloured, small to medium white head, almost no nose, just some hint of dust. Sweet malty, weak hoppy and herbal with too strong alcohol presence. Dry bitterish finish. Not so good as Comenius. 6.0%

Bottle at the Beershop tent at the Rujanfest in Zagreb, shared with ogivlado (thanks!) Poured a nice dark golden body with a small thick white head that went away at a medium pace. Sweet malty nose with some soft yet acidic herbal notes. Light sweet malty taste, some light oily alcohol, very very light hop in the background leaving some herbal bitterness, going a bit into the aftertaste too. Some lemony notes. Light dusty yeastiness. Light, soapy, and despite all these descriptors a bit boring.

0.5l bottle at the Beershop tent at the Rujanfest. Poured a hazy red-brown body with a medium sized off white head, quite nice looking. Very light grainy nose, a bit sweetish. Watery taste, very light and creamy. Some weak maltiness and some sourish-bitter hop around it and that’s all. Incredibly dull and disappointing,

(Can 0,5l) Very weird aroma, like funky apples and some chemicals. Very light clear yellow color, almost colorless. Quickly done white head. Light sweet. No finish. Waterry body. It tastes and even looks like mineral water.
