Pint at the brewery - a rich, clean, fairly straightforward and traditional rendition of the style - sweet caramelized malts, raisin and fig - finishes with some leafy light bitterness - good stuff.

Snifter at the brewery - deep black with a slightly off-white lace - a fair balance of sweet, spicy, toasty, bitter, smoky - flavors of chocolate, dried cherry, vanilla, smoked meat - creamy texture - a nice and balanced rendition, which is a departure from the more common booze and adjunct bombs made these days.

10 ounce at the brewery - hazy gold, soapy lace - flavors of ginger, pepper, melon, honey - a little sweet and heavy on the spicy phenols for my taste, but not a bad if I view it as a Belgian strong rather than a saison.

Pint at the brewery - clear dark amber- nose and flavors of dark bread, herbal hops - finishes dry, but with intact, crusty bread malt richness, light mineral bite, leafy bitterness - pretty good.

Pint at the brewery - clear straw color, sticky lace - clean, medium sweet, with a slight acidity on the tail end, finishing with a moderately floral and peppery noble hop bite - it's clean and enjoyable, but lacks the depth a crispness of the better examples.

On tap at the Denver Winter Brew Fest. Pours a cloudy, brown color, with a small, persistent, dense, tan head. The nose is toffee, peat, smoke, rye, and black bread. Off-dry, and a little bitter. Medium to heavy body, with a grainy, sharp mouthfeel. This is a pleasant, unique, and very scotch-like beer. Fun.
