Ginban Kurobe Kyokoku Beer, bottle picked up by my friend Mick. 5% Served in my lager glass. Deep gold, thick fizzy head that vanished fast with no lacing, crystal clear with tons of carbonation rising from the beer - sparkling. This pale lager has a bizarrely peach fuzz/schnapps/yoghurty aroma, a bit of butter in the background and grape or melon...? Very sharp mouthfeel, supremely effervescent. The taste is buttery & fruity, possibly some cardboard and graininess. It is hard to tell as the carbonization starts wiping my palate clean almost immediately. Not sure what is going on here with this beer but it is kind of a mess. This is made with domestically grown barley and hops - I wonder what variety it is because this thing is just so weird. The aromatics could be interesting just not in this beer which is totally disjointed. Build a beer around these hops and get the body right and you’d have something unique. One of the strangest beers I’ve had in awhile...

Bottle from Yamaya in Kanazawa. Contains rice and unmalted barley. Sweet malt and cereal aroms with some grassy hops. Slightly thin golden color with lots of bubbles. Sweet, fruity flavor. Slightly fake but drinkable. Sweet, cloying, slightly syrupy. Also too much diacetyl. Well, barely drinkable.

300 ml bottle.
Clean, light aroma. Slightly fruity, with a bit of creamy caramel. Alcohol evident. A bit of mineral and spice. Too cold, I think. Flavor of rubbing alcohol. Harsh, hot, bland, firey. What crap! Almost nothing going on here except alcohol heat. Nama ginjo? Hard to believe! Little to no flavor to speak of. Clean and inoffensive, but tasteless. Can’t believe a namazake has so little flavor!

Bottle. Medium golden color with a low, fine head. Fruity, funky, butterscotch aroma. Very creamy and toffee-like. Very sweet, butterscotch flavor, fruity, with grape or cherry, but not a natural-tasting fruitiness. Milky, with vanilla as well. Not wuite unpleasant, but strange. Oily, medium-bodied palate. Weird as hell. Like a crème caramel beer. Seems like a mistake...
