550 yen for 400ml from the Sandaya take out window in Kobe’s Harborland which much cheaper than the beer at the nearby Oktoberfest. A colack black pour with a big tan head. It has a soft chewy cocoa aroma with a meaty roastiness to it. Thin bodied the beer has a savory dark chocolate taste with solid roasted notes. The finish is almost smokey, overall pretty good and it is great to grab a beer and enjoy a view of Kobe’s harbor.

On tap at Kobe Harborland steak house, 550 yen to go glass. It pours a rich deep gold with a thick foamy off-white head. The aroma has a slight yeasty fruitiness I don’t typically associate with a pilsner. The mouthfeel is smooth & full while the taste is pretty good: earthy, malty nutty/biscuit notes with a crisp clean bitter finish. A tasty beer. --update, had another take out glass today(Nov. 2015) and it is a crisp Pilsner with an aromatic floral hop bouquet, easy drinking and kicked this up by 0.2.

Draught at the Harbor Land Sandaya Restaurant in Kobe. Dark golden, almost amber color, with a thick, fine head. Rich malty nose, with biscuits and bread, and nice grassy hops. Sweet, rich malt flavor, citrus and grassy hop, and a touch of caramel. Bread and cereals galore! Soft, citrus and pine bitterness in the finish. Smooth, soft mouth; rich yet light, but with a rather prickly finish. Great.

Draught at the Kobe Harbor Land Restaurant. Deep, dark, shiny black with a fine tan head. Rich, sweet malt aroma: chocolate, milk, a touch of cafe au lait, bread, cereals. Sweetish yet quite complex malt flavor with lots of chocolate and coffee, and a slight sour tang that’s not unpleasant. Very creamy, with a nice roasty bitter finish. Smooth, medium weight, clean. It’s very well done, though a tad too sweet and too fizzy.
