On tap at Popeye, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out a strange herbal and medicinal note, with straw and pungent grassiness. Flavour is pungent, with a medicinal herbal character and crisp biscuity malt. A bit herbal and strangely medicinal. Not my thing.

Tap at Craft Hands as Hinomaru Best Bitter. Same % and style though, so I guess this is it. Amber colour, very little head. Barman scooped it out for the genuine real ale feel. Aroma is malty, quite sweet, little bit fruity, little bit stinky. Brown bread too. Taste is quite strange. Bit of caramel, but somehow savoury caramel. Apples and sausages, but really not sure what it is. Definite fruitiness. Quite an interesting one. Pretty flat but I think that is intentional. Can't decide if I like it or not. Definitely interesting.

Tap at Craft Hands. Golden colour, white creamy head. Aroma is hoppy and grainy. Wheaty and grassy. Touch of creaminess about it too. Taste is similar. Full on graininess, touch of bitterness from the hops, and a little bit of berries too. Pretty crisp and very easy to drink. Went down very quickly.

Tap at Kamiya. Clear, bright golden, fine head. Nice noble hop nose, citrus, bread. Nicely hopped flavor, crisp, bitter. Good, solid bready malt, a touch of biscuit. Solid stuff. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Draft to a plastic cup @ Nippon Craft Beer Festival 2014. Pours amber, no head. This beer has some light fruity aroma - bit of sweet malts and maybe even some honey. Taste has a bit of bitter bite up front, then it goes on with sweet malt and some fruit notes. Aftertaste has some nice lingering bitterness and sweetness. Could drink a lot of this.

Cask 4% 650 yen for 300ml at 23 Craft Beerz, Nagoya. Great amber color pour filled to the brim, mild malt aroma. Medium body that goes down smooth. A nutty, bready beer with a sort of candy sweetness to it followed by a sharp hop bite. Really appetizing & a nice surprise from a brewery I have never heard of. They also had their Hinomaru lager. As it warmed up what had been hints of mustiness solidified into a mild ripe cheese kind of flavor but strangely enough I wasn’t put off. The beer stayed light & appetizing.

Cask at JCBF 2012. This was so-called version 2, with British style hopping. Clear bronze with bubbles. Leafy hop and cabbage nose with grass and light malts. A bit unpleasant. Light, thin body with nice light malts and ok hops. A bit boring and raw.
