Shiga Kogen x Stillwater Extra Special Dry Sake Rice Saison 5.5% Light straw gold with eggshell white foam and a sweet yeasty white pepper aroma which had my mouth watering. Medium bodied with quite a dry finish and a spicy yeasty sake flavor. Really interesting and yet super drinkable.

Shiga Kogen Macaroni Pils!? 5% Matte gold with huge bubbly foam and a bitter floral hop bouquet. Medium bodied with a semi-dry finish. It is surprisingly bitter, the tastes starts off very green and herbal bitter but then you get a touch of softer spicy noble hops before the bitterness returns in force in the finish. Overall, it’s a solid fresh bitter pils. Bonus, I think was going for 500¥ or so.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Pours out a medium gold. Big citrus hop nose, lightly tropical, balanced malt. Rich and fruity flavor, good malt backbone, just very well put together.

Lovely oaky stuff. Lots of fruit, saison yeastiness in there but it’s all about the smooth. Can’t pick the fruits but it’s all round lovely. Creamy.

Shiga Kogen Takashi in Paris Cognac BA Imperial Stout 10.5% Deep black pour with a rusty tan foam that vanished fast. The aroma is very much sweet vinous cognac oaky barrel over a rich savory stout base. Full bodied with a raspy sandpaper carbonation. The taste starts off all cognac barrel then gives you roast chocolate notes, smoke, black licorice and gives quite big of heat radiating from the pit of my stomach. Complex and well worth trying.

Shiga Kogen Hopdelic IPA West Coast IPA 6% This smelled awesome from the bottle and even better from the glass. Modern west coast fruity aroma, medium bodied and relatively smooth. The taste starts of fruity, I got gum drops, guava, prickly pear. It’s definitely bitter and west coast but the modern take as I don’t get that piney quality. Honestly, this is copper gold brew is great and represents the current state of west coast ipa really well. I’m wishing I had a case or at least a sixer…

Shiga Kogen x Trunk Imperial Coffee Porter El Mirador 8% Deep black with thick fluffy beige foam. Floral sweet coffee notes, I seriously thought this had lactose but the label says it’s a natural lactic Colombian coffee blend. Full bodied and fairly smooth with just a bit of prickly carbonation. Roast coffee with herbal notes. Quite tasty.
