Scopey returns tasting at Kernel. Thanks to LKS. Hazy amber beer, a little dirty looking, small very pale tan head. Palate is light and smooth and fairly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft wood and mellow caramel blends with mild saison herbs. Semi dry finish. Tastes like a decades old saison.

Keg at Kanazawa. Deep brown, medium head. Piny, citrus nose with caramel and chocolate notes. Quite hoppy, somewhat resiny, citrus, caramel malt. Well balanced and good drinking.

medium dark straw color. Rustic, Franconian Keller her quality, herbally, grassy and cereal malt driven. Prickly hops. Dry and bitter with nice herbal finish. Not world class but very solid.

Tap at Bung. Thought I had rated this. Clear, white head. Malty nose. Not exactly a pils, not really a kolsch either. Bready. Noble hops. Light flavor, bread, grass, citrus. A decent beer that isn’t quite a real lager.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has a big perfumey cognac barrel character upfront, with light roasted malt and a touch of estery notes. Flavour is somewhat perfumey, with plenty of hot cognac barrels, perfumey estery notes, and a touch of roast. Oily palate that's fairly thin and not particularly dense. Good but nothing exceptional.

Tap at Komachi. Hazy orange-amber, low head. Citrus and tropical fruit hops, biscuity malt. Rich malt, light caramel, homey , biscuits, ora, grapefruit, bit of tropical. Crisp, tangy, bitter finish. Good one.

A roughly 500¥ beer from Shiga Kogen? Yes please! Shiga Kogen Hoppy Brown Goes Up 6% Deep brown verging on black with a thick creamy looking beige head of foam. This beer has a big piney sweet aroma that is slightly dank but extremely inviting. Medium bodied, silky smooth with a well balanced hop forward flavor that then gives you some subtle roasty cocoa maltiness. Good stuff, wish I’d gotten more.
