Description
Twin Sails Brewing joined Port Moody’s “Brewers Row” late in 2015, opening right next door to Yellow Dog. The name of the brewery refers to its founders, identical twin brothers, as well as the common sight of sailboats that can be seen on the waters of the Burrard Inlet right out front of the brewery. Twin Sails focuses on progressive American IPAs and stouts and have recently implemented a wild barrel program. They are always trying to push the boundaries of what can be done with beer in BC. Quality comes first and foremost, but in the end, it’s just a bunch of guys and girls having way too much fun brewing beer.

Dark brown colour, near black, almost no head. First comes the smell of alcohol, followed by petrol, roasted malts, Bourbon. Good body; flavour of dark caramel, dark sugars, spirit, evident Bourbon. Quite hot and aggressive, I like the base Ste8 Flexin', this one is suitable for Bourbon Barrel lovers.

Tasted side to side with the 2021 version, this has a weird aroma: petroleum, spices, rubber, chocolate, in sequence. It's lean, it seems sweeter; more mellow, more caramel and dark sugars, less chocolate; the spices are very present too, but more hot, and less cinnamon/vanilla; like the previous verion, the alcohol is evident, highlighted by the spices as well.
Very good, but I prefer the 2021 by one pinch.

12oz @ Alex's. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: mostly spices, couldn't really find anything else. Taste: along the same lines, boozy, some chocolate. Overall: not as smooth as 2021 now, but it's still ok.

Roast and some cinnamon. Vanilla, some chili. Black pour with good mocha head. Oily consistency. Bittersweet finish. Lots going on here, and it comes off well though not perfectly. Chocolate. Can.

Mar 02, 2026 (8/4/8/3/16=3.9): Poured from 355mL can at PG hotel share with Dom. Very dark brown with almost no beige head. Mild bourbon and maple, more of a medium body. Still decent. Same rating.

Mar 20, 2023 (8/4/8/3/16=3.9): Poured from 355mL can. Near black with small beige head. Mild bourbon and maple, very feint vanilla. Prefer the 2021 and 2020 variants slightly better, but still quite nice.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark colour, near black, with beige head. Aroma of chocolate and spices, intense. It's highly carbonated, which impacts the mouthfeel, leaner than the ABV would suggest; the sweetness is very mild; brown sugar, caramel, touch of milk chocolate, spices; low bitterness, some alcohol feeling.
Not bad, the concoction becomes almost fruity.
