Description
HIISI was founded in 2013, to fill a rather selfish need; We want to brew beers that we’d like to drink ourselves. Even if we do this for a living now, we still consider ourselves hobbyists of beer – it’s the flavor and meaningfulness of the beer that counts. We believe that, instead of just a beverage and means of intoxication, beer is an experience. Beer should be aromatic, nuanced and balanced, multi-sensory by nature. In addition to brewing great beer, we want to enjoy ourselves. We are here to develop interesting concepts with interesting people. We enjoy translating Finnish mythology and its lesser-known aspects into beers with character. We look for new ingredients and processes to continuously improve our craft and knowhow. We study, we try. We make our own. We will not educate others on the importance of rules, as we often do not follow them ourselves. We don’t concern ourselves with the reinheitsgebot, and we do not consider ourselves to be above any style of beer. That’s HIISI. Beer, against boredom.

330ml bottle, L454, bought at Alko, Kilpis. Spotty lacing from a bubbly, beige head over a dark brown body. Roasted dark malty aromas, mid-sweet, inviting. Fine blended dark malt-driven taste with moments of earthy, black chocolate added by a coffee touch, and some ripe fruits in the back. Nicely roasted malty ending, semi sweet. Medium bodied. Like it. (Tromsø, 05.04.2025).

Bottle at home from CBF '19. Pours copper with a thin, quickly disappearing off-white head. Nose is estery hefe notes, berries. Taste is held back altogether, showing slightly sweet hefe notes again, juniper's there as well, some very faint smokey touch in every other sip. It's actually a pleasant beer cause I found myself thinking I could grab a few more of this, but pretty mild and held back in many characteristics altogether.

Bottle from CBF. Pours opaque yellow with a dissipating white bead. Nose is sweet hoppy, fruity and floral. Taste is sweet, there’s some malts in there too, but mainly hops. Light, dry body, soft to average carbonation.

Bottiglia.

Draught@Vastarannan Kiiski, Helsinki. Hazy deep orange colour with a small off-white foamy head. Aroma is nicely acidic and tart berries with some wooden tones to it. Flavour is lots of tart berries, some sourness, mild acidic tones with nice wooden tones with some slight spiciness. Lovely what a barrel can do for complexity.
