From old tasting notes. Deep Amber red color. Thick rocky beige head. Earthy toasted malt nose. Bittersweet caramel malt flavor. Lots of hops from middle on. Bitter hop finish.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a slight whitish head. Aroma of fruity hop, rye and caramel. Rather pleasing. Med body or a bit better. Flavor is sweet caramel, a little fruity hop, some rye spice for bitter. Finishes less than dry, but a little bitter. Thinner than expected. Rye started disappointing, but it comes forth with time. It’s a nice drink, though not likely to get a star level rating.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. A bit syrupy looking on the pour, with slowly cascading head formation. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, honey, rye, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity hops and moderate bready/rye malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, light pepper/pine, honey, rye, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, light pepper/pine, honey, rye, lightly toasted biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and moderate bready/rye malt sweetness; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly drying from lingering bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden, zero warming after the finish for 8.5%. Overall this is a very good hoppy rye golden ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity hops and moderate bready/rye malt sweetness; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Nicely juicy on hop flavors; balanced malt sweetness without being cloying. A very enjoyable offering.

Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted oats, dark bread, and lightly tart blueberries; with lighter notes of coffee, smoke, nuttiness, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, blueberries, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted oats, dark bread, and lightly tart blueberries; with lighter notes of coffee, smoke, nuttiness, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted oats, dark bread, blueberries, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, blueberries, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slight dryness from hop/roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly silky/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.9%. Overall this is a very nice fruited oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, blueberries, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Good presence of blueberries without being overly tart; with a really nice tasting base oatmeal stout on malt complexity. A very enjoyable offering.
