Bottle shared. Pours murky golden with an off white head. Aroma of rubber, butter and infection... Light moderate sweet, bitter and acidic. Spoiled, definitely wrong.

Helder lichtgeel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en krachtig. Blijft lang hangen. Erg goed en smakelijk bier.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours hazy gold with foamy white head. Fresh wit aroma, taste is banana, cloves, vanilla, perfume, spice, honey, lemon, citrus and floral elements. Very refreshing and flavoursome wit.

750ml bottle. Hazy golden, low head. grassy, earthy dry orange peel. Sparkly orange peel start, grassy, herbal. Fresh, a bit fizzy and light. Fresh fruity finish.

’Raw-hopped’ attempt at saison with off-white, sticky, mousse-like, thick and stable head and pale golden blonde colour with somewhat greenish hue, misty. Fruity and spicy aroma with impressions of wheat, apple, bread, lime zest, iron, white grapes, unripe peaches and grassy hops. Taste dryly fruity and sourish, clearly wheaty, green apple, strong carbonation, lightly yeasty, finishing in a mild grassy hoppiness without becoming actually bitter. More of an ’outdoor café beer’ (light, blonde summer ales popular in Belgium but usually not too complex) than a real saison to me - but perhaps this is precisely why the diminutive ’saisonneKE’ is applied...

Belgoobeer’s first, a special witbier with spelt and oats and classically spiced with coriander and curaçao; re-rating as I had this beer once when it first came onto the market, but wondered how it has evolved since then now that (since February of this year) it is brewed in Van Aerts’ own brewery in St.-Pieters-Leeuw. Pours a hazy, peachy ’old gold’ colour with quiet fizz, under a moussy, dense but not very thick, yet decently lacing, eggshell-white head. Aroma of unripe redcurrant, white bread dough, red apple peel, banana, dry hay, breakfast cereals, sourish grains, green kiwi, raw rhubarb (acetaldehyde), coriander but not too overpowering, lemon peel hint, Conférence pear, dried lemonbalm, soapy wheat, vague accents of stale sweat, moist straw. Crisp onset, spritzy carb, fruity esters reminiscent of starfruit, green apple, redcurrant, unripe pineapple and some banana but not too much, bit minerally with a very light salty edge, gentle but unmistakable lemon peel sourishness which works quite refreshing in this case; pleasantly bready middle phase, sourishly grainy, sweetish, with a soft fringe probably due to the oats, supple, bit minerally due to a fairly strong carbonation; honeyish malt sweetness plays with the deep and ’deaf’ spelt sourishness, quite interesting. Finishes in more sourish graininess with additional, more ’high-tuned’ lemony sourishness, very refreshing, along with somewhat resiny coriander ’bittersweetness’ but very mildly so; dryish, with a certain leafy and earthy, ’structural’ hoppiness and clear bready yeastiness to it. Appetizing little beer, makes me feel I have not spent enough attention to Van Aerts’ creations lately; this is quite pleasant, it feels ’natural’, has no obvious flaws, is not ’overcoriandered’ like many other Belgian-style wheat beers and it quenches the thirst in an elegant, tasty manner. Better, more solid and more refreshing than I remember it from the original Binchoise-made version, so my rating goes up a bit.

Dry-hopped beer, Belgoobeer’s second if I remember well, with snow white, stable head and pale golden colour with greenish hue, misty. Aroma of apricot, pear, peach, bread, vanilla and lots of green and fresh, flowery hops. Taste sweet in onset, even a bit sugary for a moment, paired with lemony acidity, malty middle phase, elegant, peach-like fruitiness lingers on, ending in a refinedly flowery hoppiness reminiscent of freshly cut grass and chamomille, moderately long. Not my favorite style but interesting.

Bioloo Amber’s little sister, with a rocky, snow white head and brightly golden blonde colour. Aroma lightly sourish with grassy and floral hops, green apple, fennel, dough, honey, pepper; taste freshly sourish, yeasty, dryly fruity, flowery and moderately spicy, ending in a hoppy bitterish finish. Much more appealing and much more balanced than the Bioloo Amber, if you ask me.

Tasted in 2010 when it was first launched and now revisiting from a bottle recently bought at a Delhaize supermarket. Tightly cobweb lacing, off-white, irregular but dense and well-retaining head over a light orange blonde, lightly hazy but not really amber coloured beer with vivid sparkling. Aroma of cooked white cabbage DMS (which was already the case six years ago), toasted bread, raw celery, dry red apple, moldy orange peel, caramel, unripe pear, dough, some freshly cut grass and a hint of garden weeds. Fruity onset but in a very clean, ’restrained’ kind of way, fairly neutral even with low sweetness and a bit of sourishness, well-carbonated and a bit minerally but not overcarbonated, mild caramelly and nutty maltiness, a bit toasted and bittering, with herbal and grassy hops growing in intensity and ending in a fairly bittering, drying, herbal finish with retronasal floral and weedy aromas; a thin trace of nutty malt bittersweetness peeps through but so does a certain ’cooked cabbage’ flavor. I remember - and have looked this up in notes dating back to 2010 - that I found this beer not very agreeable when it first hit the market due to this ’cooked vegetable’ quality and sadly, after six years, I have to establish that nothing really changed. I hate DMS and this one has a lot of it - and not enough other flavors to counter it. I still kind of like the fact that Delhaize offers beers from smaller breweries / beer companies these days, though...

Belgoobeer’s third, with off-white, creamy head and cloudy darkish blonde colour, tending towards amber. Nutty aroma with a sweet, caramel-candy like touch and hints of pear, flowery hops and amaretto. Fruity, sweetish, apply taste, hints of melon and sherry, nutty malts, peppery hops in the end with a long, moderately bitter finish.
