From the bottle. Pours amber, clear. The foamy white head soon fades away. Not much evident carbonation, looks rather flat. Aroma is caramel, biscuits, smoke. Taste is mildly sweet, traces of caramel and white bread. Nothing exciting but also nothing offensive.

330ml bottle into weizen glass. From Aldi, Hurstville. Wow! Fills the entire half litre glass with foam. Impressive but less then useful. Eventually some cloudy amber beer appears at the bottom of the glass. Smells more maltier and less spicier than other hefes. The towering white head takes a long long time to reach manageable height. Eventually a sediment laden amber beer appears with a fluffy white crown. Good body, taste is light on, a bit sickly sweet. Finish has bitter notes not normally found in this style of beer. Tiny touch of fruity banana at the end, not much spice. It's OK.

330ml swing-top bottle from Aldi, Hurstville. Into pint glass. Crystal clear amber beer with large clingy white head and low carbonation. A little thin lacing. Smells of sweet malt and a little grain. Smooth texture, light body. Incredibly easy to drink. Finish is dry with subdued graininess. Straight forward Pils, would be great in hot weather.

Surprise purchase in ALDI, Hurstville. 330ml swing-top bottle into shaker. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow with high carbonation and dissipating fluffy white head. Nose has cardboard and a little grain. Smooth texture, nice body, easy-drinking to be sure. Finish is grainy and fruity. No world beater but pleasant enough. The brewery's website describes this beer (in German) as 'The beer Bavaria envies'. I don't think they do!

This should have been the Kalea Advent Calendar Day 4, but have stocked up a couple of days. Malty layers aroma. A hazy amber. Bubbly translucent white head. Light bitter, of a quinine nature. Some citrus seen in there. As I drink more a caramel sweetness makes an appearance at the end. Light bodied. Thin. Fizzy. Abrupt finish. Not great. Had worse. Not quite shite pale lager lows.

Pours hazy orange golden with very thin and nonladting offwhite head. Gentle peach and apple nose, slight biscuity back. Moderate grassy bitterness with a hint of fruit. Herbal aftertaste with unpleadant metal. Lighter body. Not unpleadant but nothing great either. Passable.

Fläschken: Hazy, golden to deep golden, medium-sized and slowly collapsing and lacy off-white head; dryish grassy and dusty nose with delicate yeasty traces; moderate dry bitter flavour, light bodied and a bit tart; dry lingering grassy and tart finish. Quite monotonous, not much more than a simple north-german Pilsener (!)...

*Bottle from a local Globus. Smooth caramelly beginning. Round and mild, floral hops. The back is slightly bittered, grainy smooth, malty and hints of caramel. Nice Amber Ale. Round and smooth with floral fresh hops on top.
