Description
It all started with a humble homebrew kit and the drive to make better beer. Tired of the same bland and dated choices everywhere, Air Force friends Eric Wallace and Dick Doore set out to make the kind of beer that excited them; beer they wanted to drink. A hobby quickly became an obsession and it wasn't long before Left Hand Brewing opened for business on January 22, 1994. Left Hand has steadily increased its production, making the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers list in 2012.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear, orangey brown with a creamy, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt. Surprisingly light-bodied with notes of roasted malt - hard roasted - and then a typical ashy edge. Dry finish. 220406

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Hazy golden with a creamy, white head. Aroma of yeast and banana. Medium-bodied with lots of great fruit esters - loads of banana and citrus. Dry, lightly sulphurous finish. This is a genuine Hefe and furthermore an excellent representative of the style. Proof that American brewers indeed can make decent wheat beers. 020406

A solid, English-style session bitter - dry, mineral-like character (probably from the hard water used) - quite bready and chewy - just the slightest bit of strawberry sweetness - pretty good.

A red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of caramel, as well as lighter notes of hops and roasted malt. The flavor is dry and quite roasted, as hard roasted malt. An OK beer.

Frothy off-white head over a murky, chestnut colored body. Toasty malt aroma, peppery. Lightly sweet with supportive but subdued hops as you would look for in a good Bock. Medium bodied with a smooth delivery.

2003 bottle. I must start by saying that I’m not real impressed by the wax covering over the cap on the bottle. Sure it looks great, but then you feel like a squirrel trying to open a really tough nut, banging about your kitchen and the like till finally, after way too much effort you’re in. Supposing you’re lucky enough to get here, things aren’t too promising. Color is a nice amber, with a very minimal head and a bit of lacing, but nothing to write home about. Aroma is of apple, alcohol and some other stuff that isn’t coming through clear enough for me to describe. Flavor is crisp, with a cognac-like quality, but even in a bottle that is three years old has a bit of an alcoholic bite to it.

Very pleasing and smooth. Dark garnet color, thin head. Aroma mildly roasted but restrained by a chocolately goodness. Smooth sweet palate, soft body, a touch of semisweet chocolate and mild roast. Mouthfeel is just a *touch* on the thin side. Easy finish and very drinkable.

This is the first beer I have encountered from this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright copper color with a small yellow-tan head. The aroma is sour nut and piney hops. The flavor is sour nut and vague sour hops. Acceptable but nothing special.
