Imperial stout from a craft brewery in New York I never heard of before, big cheers to Meeki for sharing this one at his place. Thin, tiny-bubbled, mocha-brown, dot-lacing head over a black robe with thin bronze edges. Aroma of pecan nut pie, dark chocolate, hazelnut oil, espresso, fondant, marmite, dry caramel, brandy, dried prunes, bayleaf, toffee. Concentrated onset, sweet but not anywhere near sugary, noble hints of dried blackberries and dried prunes, with even a vague sourish undertone; soft carb, very smooth, oily, full body. Caramelly, toffeeish, beech-nutty and eventually lightly (unsugared) chocolatey malt layers unfold, filling the mouth in a bittersweet way, but notably less sweet than I am used to from present-day imperial stouts. This dim sourish undertone remains, reflecting that light sourish aspect roasted grains so often carry along, while hints of bayleaf and coffee grounds connect with a warming, brandy-like alcohol glow. Traces of dark nuts, light chocolate and caramel linger, in a more dryish than sweet way, almost more 'English' than American in style. Unpretentiously old-fashioned U.S. stout - I did not know they still made them like this in America... Lovely.
