At Modist, we push past traditional brewing by embracing creativity and unconstrained experimentation.
This starts with the approach to recipe development taken by our Head Brewer, Keigan. Contrary to starting with a style guideline in mind, then moving forward – he starts with a flavor and experience in mind, then works backward. And since we’ve decided to not be bound by style guidelines, he’s free to use whatever ingredients in any amount with whatever technique he wants to create a new beer experience.
To enable this philsophy and to enhance our creativity, we created a custom built brewhouse that allows us to make the beers we want to make. It’s centered around the region’s first mash filter. This piece of equipment allows us to use any grain in any percentage – and do so while using a fraction of the water and energy of a traditional brewery.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has lots of straw and grain with a bit of grass supporting. Flavor is straw forward with a combination of grass and hay backing.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has citrus rind and bitter citrus with a bit of sweet grain backing. Flavor has dank citrus and earthy onion, a hint of tropical fruit and a light sweet grain backbone.

On tap at the brewery. Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains and earthy peanut with dark grains and roasted malts supporting. Flavor has dark chocolate and peanut buttter with musty dark grains and roasted malts backing.

On tap at Modist, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out the guava upfront, with plenty of lacto, and the kiwi further back. Flavour is loaded with moderately tart guava, followed by kiwi and the pear. Lots of lacto, but the fruit complement it nicely. Finishes moderately puckering. Solid.

On tap at Modist, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with fresh peanuts, with maybe a hint of lactose and cocoa nibs. Flavour is similar, with fresh roasted peanuts upfront, accentuated by just enough lactose and cocoa. Lovely peanut stout.

On tap at Modist, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out dank hops, some yeast and pithy stone fruits. Flavour is fairly dank and resinous, with tropical pithy stone fruits, some resins, and yeast. Not particularly clean, but it manages to stay drinkable enough. Solid.

On tap at Modist, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of pithy stone fruits, with yeast and chewy hops. Flavour is quite fruity and yeasty in typical NE fashion, with resinous hops, some dankness, and biscuity malt. A bit too yeasty but it works.
