At Modist, we push past traditional brewing by embracing creativity and unconstrained experimentation.
This starts with the approach to recipe development taken by our Head Brewer, Keigan. Contrary to starting with a style guideline in mind, then moving forward – he starts with a flavor and experience in mind, then works backward. And since we’ve decided to not be bound by style guidelines, he’s free to use whatever ingredients in any amount with whatever technique he wants to create a new beer experience.
To enable this philsophy and to enhance our creativity, we created a custom built brewhouse that allows us to make the beers we want to make. It’s centered around the region’s first mash filter. This piece of equipment allows us to use any grain in any percentage – and do so while using a fraction of the water and energy of a traditional brewery.

On tap at the brewery. Pours an extremely cloudy yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of citrus rind, bitter citrus and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor is similar with dank citrus and citrus rind supported by a touch of sweet grains.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a murky pinkish peach with a white head that dissipates completely. Aroma has an earthy note and tart pink lemonade with some sweet grains underlying. Flavor has lots of pink lemonade and light grapefruit with sweet grains backing.

On tap at the brewery. Cloudy orange color. Hop aroma, citrus and flowers. Flavor is sweet, fruity hops, citrus, pineapple,. Also some dry nirch near the end. Full flavor and full oalate, this is one of the best IPA’s in Minnesota.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong citrus note with some rind and a light sweet grain backbone. Flavor is full of citrus with notes of rind, grass and grains backing.

On tap at the brewery. Pours near black with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice dark grain and pine combination with a light roast underlying. Flavor has crisp pine and dark grains with a bitter finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains with some wheat and a touch of roast. Flavor has earthy dark grains and some roasted malts but finish is a bit thin.

ABR 2016. An off aroma I can’t identify. flavor is better, some malt, yeast and hops that I find do not work very well with the style. An interesting experiment that didn’t work out very well.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of wheat with some citrus, grass and a bit of hay. Flavor has lots of onion and wheat with citrus and grass supporting.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear golden amber with a near white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has grains and bread with a bit of juniper underlying. Flavor has lots of bread and grains with some juniper underlying.
