Draught. Nice citrus aroma—works with the hops. Medium body Medium rich malt flavor, fruity, nice bitterness, though it becomes a bit astringent in the end and after drinking a bit of it. Really nicely integrated fruit, though the bitterness of the peel is a bit too harsh. Nicely done fruit beer, overall.

Fascinating aroma: light citric, earthy, berries, salty Unami? Amber, off-white ring. Medium to light body. Exits like a light pale ale. Quick finish. Still not sure I got that aroma, very intriguing.

Draught at Tadg’s. Pretty light brown with lots of red, fine lace. Fruity, yeasty aroma, earthy hops, spices, Belgian yeast? Spicy, dry, estery flavor with earth, caramel, lots of fruit, peaches. Dry, dirty, well bitter finish. Has a biere de garde or saison like yeast character. Don’t really know if I can taste the rice in there…interesting, though, and original, quite funky and dirty, with very nice hopping. Tastes very Belgian to me, though they do not advertise it as such. Great flavor for a 5% beer.

Crisp, very hazy copper coloured body with a bright orange glow and a rusty look - very nice, coupled with a super dense, microfoamed tan head. Aroma of fresh soapy hops, some light cardboard and malt, a bit of unfinished wort and a touch of peaches. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal hops with that soapy characteristic and a bit of caramel and caster sugar at the end. Aftertaste shows some caramel sweetness, a dry earthy hoppy character and a subtle, yet noticeable soapy finish. Overall, a good beer - not sublime, but not a bad representation of the style from the Japanese. I sampled this 50 cL slender bottle purchased from La Bodega (Yukon Spirits) in Anchorage, Alaska on 26-June-2010, sampled at home on the other side of the country in Washington on 31-September-2010.

Bottle. Pours black with foamy tan head. Nose of barley, turpentine and grassy yeast. Taste is grass, tin can, hops, malt, stale coffee and lemongrass. I guess it is supposed to be a stout.

Bottle at Beerwarming Party. Pours a cloudy gold with a fizzy, white head. Very sweet aroma with honey, malts and citrus hops. Sweet flavor as well, with caramel malts and some light, grapefruit hops. The bitterness seems to have mellowed a bit due to this bottle being pretty old (appx 8 months?) but the sweet, maltiness works for me. The body is medium with smooth carbonation. Finishes sweet and a bit sticky, with some fruity bitters. Very good.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, orange-gold with a soft, white head. Pleasant, hoppy aroma with malty notes. Flavor has wonderful balance. Begins sweet with light bread and caramel, then goes into bitter territory. The hop presence is quite strong, a touch that I quite liked. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet with lingering, though not excessive, hops. Very good. I’m surprised by some of these low rates.

Draught at the Tanabata Beer Festa Toyama, 2010. Aroma of wheat and citrus hops. Looks and smells like an American wheat ale with just a bit of Belgian yeast. Spicy, hoppy, wheat malt flavor. A touch of cardboard and peaches too. A very interesting Wit and American Wheat Ale hybrid, which the brewer confirmed was his intention.

Bottle. Pours light gold with a soft, white head. Lightly sweet aroma with malts, citrus (lemon), and mild funk. Interesting flavor. Rice character is there, with some tart and salt notes, decent sweetness, crisp and clean finish. Light bodied and effervescent. Not bad.
