500 ml bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington. The pour is hazed orange golden with a firm three inch clean white head. Pretty beer. The aroma is earthy mildly sweet floral, along with mild citrus fruit. The nose in general is very subdued. The taste is pretty yeasty up front, spice, coriander and the citrus and grass of the nose. The lingering aftertaste is pineapple and a very distant hint of black licorice as well as pine. The flavors really pop out, much more going on then the nose would suggest. The palate is thin to medium bodied with a low carbonation right and the lingering yeast and earthy aftertaste. Odd beer to take notes on, in concert all of these flavors work pretty well together, but quite hard to describe. As I got to the bottom of the bottle, and the yeast became even more pronounced, the beer took on a very "Belgian" character. Interesting beer.

Draught at Kyoto Craft Beer Festa 2011. Very mellow indeed. Grainy, yeasty nose and flavor with peach and melon, spicy without spice. Very nice malt character, very fruity. The wheat aspect is evident for sure, though in character it approaches a saison. Good stuff, though with a bit better attenuation it would be better. A bit too sweet.

Draught. Nice citrus hop nose--cascade? Reddish amber color, cloudy. Good, rounded, crystal malt flavor with big grassy hops, hugely bitter. Round and mellow mouth, thick and rich. Great balance. Great stuff.

Draught at Q-Brick. Nice hoppy aroma—seems like an American and English blend maybe. Somewhat faint but good. Medium amber color. Light, clean flavor, nice hops, light caramel and fruit that is almost tropical. Nice bitterness. A good bitter that you could drink all night.

Bottle from Hi Time. Pours clear copper with a restive foamy/bubbly beige head. Aroma is earthy over roast caramel. Med body. Flavor is moderate roast malt with a lot of astringent earthy/herbal hop. It is definitely bitter. It’s almost like having a shitake mushroom aspect, but let’s settle for earthy. A different take on an IPA.

Draught at Q-Brick. Medium amber color with lace. Light, malty aroma. Fruity, round flavor with soft malt, light hops, though a bit peppery. Rather sweet, with cherry and grape and caramel and a mild hop finish. Non-descript but decently put-together.

Re-rate. Slightly better in 2012. Bumped up rating to reflect Didn’t grove on this. Subtle nutty flavor, which I can respect but the medium brown color of the brew was the first indication that it was not a porter in anyway shape or form. Medium body, malty, borderline cloying, lacking any roasted character. Too subtle everywhere. A touch cloying finish. Nut brown ale?? Maybe, but not a porter.

Draught at Popeye. Medium amber-orange color with a fine, think head. Doesn’t look at all like a porter. Aroma of caramel, nuts, dried fruits, like a rich brown ale. Wow! Rich malt flavor, nuts and grains, caramel, just a bit of roast and some orange-flavored hops. Delicious, nutty, with great malt profile and nice hopping as well. Wouldn’t call it a porter, unless you say maybe an amber porter! But excellent.

Roasted aroma, but must less so in the flavor. Copper color and a huge, and very long lasting head. Lightly roasted grain but also a very light and airy palate. It is an expensive beer, for what it is, but not bad.
