Draft @ RBC. Solid black body, a lacy white head. Nice mellow schwartz malt smell. Taste has nice coffee roast to it, a bit of stout roastiness, too. But unlike a stout, it sits lightly on my tum-tum. A bit of ale fruit ester at the back end.

Draft taster at RBC. Curious brownish amber color with a light foam head. Malty and yeasty nose, but still a bit subtle. Good summer time bock taste; full of malt, but not heavy. Goes down well despite higher alcohol, nicely sweet with a good balance, even if I can’t pick out the hop load.

Draft at RB Chicago. Current batch is listed at 5.9%. More brassy color than most pilseners. Clear golden body with a few bubbles feeding a golden head. Alight malty smell, again proper for the style. I have to say the taste is merely standard. Smooth grains, with hops just there for balance. Nothing really leaps out at me. Looks nice once the Mug is nearly finished, with thick lace nearly all the way down the glass. Then there’s a slight surprise of minty hop flavor in the middle.

Draft at RBC, June 3. Don’t know if it’s the same barrel as the previous two ratings, but I don’t have any info that says this wasn’t done before. Cloudy brownish red in my taster. Nice malty smell with, alcohol, oak,and a trace of dried cherry. Taste shows a bit a harsh hop bitterness, which I thought was Northern Brewer, but I see dry hopping in the description. Taste has some bourbon notes, but is still pretty bright in hops. Not thick like some impys, but it still goes down just fine for a hoppy beer.
