The tripel in the Vorst van Oss series developed by Thissen's in Lith in North Brabant, a series apparently comprising other beers as well - so I was a bit surprised that none of them has made it to this site yet at the time of entering this one. Thanks to Niek, a local of this area of the Netherlands, for this apparently still unknown beer! Cream white, densely moussy, frothy, slowly opening but otherwise stable head, initially clear orange blonde robe with amberish tinge, misty further on. Aroma of overcooked broccoli (DMS) and even stronger sulfur or burnt rubber (DMTS), sadly overpowering more flattering impressions of clove, cold canned tomato soup, green celery, rusk, apple peel, bread pulp, grilled carrots. Sweetish onset yet nowhere too sweet and relatively low in esters, some dried apricot and tomato peel, medium carbonation with rounded body; odd spicy and herbal notes of clove, celery and paprika hover over a bread-crusty, rusk-like, cereally and slightly caramelly maltiness, but then the DMS and DMTS return retronasally, along with what seem to be actually applied herbs, mild floral hops and lingering yeasty spiciness. The alcohol remains totally hidden. Old school 'triple ambrée' almost in Walloon style, with a confident amount of real spicing and very well hidden alcohol; get rid of those off-flavours and you will have a perfectly enjoyable, even somewhat original tripel.
