33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Jumbo Wageningen. Clear brown to black with a light beige head. Roasted malts aroma with some hops. Taste is bitter with an earthen undertone. Quite thin body. Enjoyable but when more than 10 brewers collaborate you might expect something more special and complex than a 'simple' schwarzbier.

Schwarzbier made by a whole bunch of northeastern Dutch brewers, the profits of which are invested in the restauration of the valuable historical organ in Groningen’s Martini church, colloquially named “Olle Grieze”, hence the name. From a blue (!) bottle shared by Craftmember, thanks. Pale greyish white, loosely moussy, opening head over a hazy dark burgundy-bronze beer, not quite black. Aroma of strong liquorice candy and ‘drop’, pecan nuts, wet toast, dried plums, elderberries, cola, tea. Sweetish onset, dried figs, but restrainedly so; medium carb, smooth, supple mouthfeel. Straightforward nutty and bit caramelly maltiness, sweetish with toasted bittering edges as can be expected from the style, but gently so; herbal hop bitterish touch blends with this toastiness in the finish, while that ‘drop’ effect returns in the end. Aftertaste not unlike sweet liquorice candy. Too sweet and herbal for the style, could do with more roasted bitterness, but an easygoing beer to drink, nothing wrong with it.
