Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. Itโs fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

On tap at Great Notion, pours an opaque golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry piney hops, tropical fruits and bready malt. Flavour is super fresh, with loads of tropical fruits, dry hopping and dry citrus. Dry and citrusy, with wonderful depth. Excellent.

On nitro tap at Great Notion, pours a cloudy murky orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out fresh roasted coffee and dry biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with notes of fresh coffee beans and sweet bready malt. Strange but it's pleasant enough. Meh.

On tap at Saraveza Farmhouse Festival, pours a cloudy golden yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out biscuity malt and light Belgian yeast. Flavour is very dry, with notes of biscuity malt, tangy notes and light Belgian yeast. Not particularly interesting but it works okay.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a pitch black color with a medium white head. A big spicy minty vanilla nose. Light cinnamon, I guess it is the cardamon but this is spicy, like a minty tea. Vanilla. Solid interesting beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy orange color with a small white head. A big rich sour berry nose. The flavor is sharp sourness at times, but the berries are so big that it always tastes of blueberry, soft sweet base. Hmm. Very unique and I think quite good.

This is a really wild brew. All over the place with complexity. Pours a dark brown/black color with a small white head. A big vinous fruity nose. The flavor is sharp sour red wine, funky, chocolate and light roast. Very nice. Odd one as soured stouts often are.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a tan golden color with a medium white head. A big sweet sugary candy nose. The flavor is interesting; very sweet, a banana like fruitiness, perfume, light coconut. Solid.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A huge spicy vanilla nose. The flavor really mirrors a root beer I think with clear honey, lots of sweetness, vanilla, big sarsaparilla. Good.
