Description
Griffin Claw Brewing Company’s official opening day may be July 18th, 2013 but it all started when Dan Rogers began working his magic at Big Rock Chophouse in Birmingham, MI. Dan had been brewing since 1991 and eventually found his way to Big Rock in 2004, this is the unofficial start of Griffin Claw. Dan continued hammering out amazing beers in the small confines of Big Rock and the Michigan beer community started taking notice. It wasn’t until 2010 that his name and beers received a lot more attention. 2010 was a big year, winning two World Beer Cup medals for Norm’s Raggedy Ass and Bonnie’s Raggedy Ass.
Griffin Claw’s culture is that of growth. Our path to get where we are has been a quick one but it’s because of our people. We are centered around young, hungry, active beer enthusiasts – with a foundation of grizzled vets. Our love for this Great Beer State is increased as the days go on and we love the industry that we’re in.

Can at the July 2023 DC RB Tasting. Poured a dark black, not quite oil, but dark color with a medium sized, tan head. Aroma was huge chocolate, vanilla. Some barrel. Coffee beans, vanilla. Alcohol is certainly present in this one.

Roast and light caramel. Barrel is really well integrated here. Light enough to give a great injection of oak without being too much. A little chocolate. Black pour with decent head. Bittersweet finish. Can.

12oz can pours a murky black with a ring of beige head. Nose is booze, Kahlua, cocoa, cinnamon, coffee, vanilla. Flavor is all the adjuncts with a heavy toast and butterscotch. Huge coffee here. Huge booze too. Full bodied, boozy, almost spicy finish.

16 oz can, dated 05/11/23. Pours a fully hazy yellow with a white head. Very strong orange citrus aroma, grapefruit, tropical fruit, maybe a bit of pine. Flavor again strong on the orange juice, grapefruit, maybe even lemon and lime, with tropical fruit. It's interesting to me how strong and clear the orange is. Anyway, it's pretty enjoyable.

Can from Trader Joe's. Pours a clear straw gold with a full two fingers of white foam. Pine, white grapefruit and light toasted caramel on the nose. Dry on the palate with dried pineapple, citrus zest and pith. Great lacing down the glass. Dry finish with lingering pith and light mineral notes. Very good session IPA.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear orange gold with a finger of white foam that dissipates. Candied orange, caramel, pine and grapefruit on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Pine resin, orange and grapefruit on the finish. Lighter body than expected. Nice stuff.
