Description
Griffin Claw Brewing Company’s official opening day may be July 18th, 2013 but it all started when Dan Rogers began working his magic at Big Rock Chophouse in Birmingham, MI. Dan had been brewing since 1991 and eventually found his way to Big Rock in 2004, this is the unofficial start of Griffin Claw. Dan continued hammering out amazing beers in the small confines of Big Rock and the Michigan beer community started taking notice. It wasn’t until 2010 that his name and beers received a lot more attention. 2010 was a big year, winning two World Beer Cup medals for Norm’s Raggedy Ass and Bonnie’s Raggedy Ass.
Griffin Claw’s culture is that of growth. Our path to get where we are has been a quick one but it’s because of our people. We are centered around young, hungry, active beer enthusiasts – with a foundation of grizzled vets. Our love for this Great Beer State is increased as the days go on and we love the industry that we’re in.

Bottle, 2017, 14%. Color: Very dark ruby, fast disappearing thin beige head. Aroma: Fruity fresh coffee beans and Bourbon. Taste: Boozy, roasted malt, balanced with Bourbon, notes of vanilla and fruity, sourish coffee. Notes of blackberry. Moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Full body, below average carbonation. Nice complexity, very well balanced. Very good.

Citrusy hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, lemon zest, lime, some grapefruit, blood orange. Taste is citrusy hoppy, notes of lemon, hints of lemon zest, lime, a touch of grapefruit, weak, biscuity, pale malty basis, slightly watery passages. Intense lemon notes, a bit watery overall.

Can at beertemple. Aroma of booze, 0each, orange and malt. Taste has juicy orange, malt, caramel, bourbon booze, oak and a boozy finish. More like a boozy imperial ipa than barley wine.

Fantastic! Milk/dark choc/cocoa/coffee/nutmeg/cinn/chipotle/caramel/molasses/smoke/char/herbal/grass. Fairly hop/char bitter/spicy. Creamy/silky, fairly sticky/chalky full body. Increasing pepper heat. Dangerously smooth sipping. Spot on spiced stout!

Can at a tasting. Rather complex and intense. Loads of flavours - caramelly, nutty maltiness, moderate clean wood, light bourbon, light warming alcohol, med-light coffee, grainy. Overall quite food, rewarding sipper.

Can shared in London - cheers to Colin. Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Moderately sweet, with notes of burnt toffee, earth, brownies. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly balanced finish, more tasty brownies, relaxed bitterness. Fun one.
