22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 4/2016. Pours clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, chocolate, cocoa, spicy rye, toasted dark bread, light coffee, floral, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and dark/roast/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, chocolate, cocoa, spicy rye, toasted dark bread, light coffee, floral, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness and rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, chocolate, spicy rye, dark bread, floral, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good black rye IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Not quite as hoppy as I was expecting, but still has enough to feel like an IPA. A very enjoyable offering.

Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, grapefruit, blackberry, pineapple, orange, citrus peel, mint, licorice, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, light honey, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, grapefruit, blackberry, pineapple, orange peel, mint, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Very unique hop profile; not too bold or bitter on hop flavors, but has nice complexity. A very enjoyable offering.

Aromas of big peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, light pine, honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, light pine, honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/citrus peel bitterness; with lingering notes of peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, pine, honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Lovely deep amber color. Tons of toast, hay, wheat, caramel. Caramel toast is what it is. The mouth is very sour, smooth, but so sour But not in a bad ways . Lots of leather and dried peaches. Super different. Wow. Great stuff.

Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, lime, ginger, oak, light chocolate/nuttiness, light vanilla, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate spice/oak notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, lime, ginger, oak, light chocolate/nuttiness, light vanilla, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/ginger bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, lime, ginger, oak, light chocolate/nuttiness/vanilla, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and moderate spice/oak flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly drying from spicy notes as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice spiced brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and moderate spice/oak flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Not overpowering on spices at all, and they compliment the base flavors of the beer really well. A very enjoyable offering.

Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Crisp, slightly hazy golden coloured body with a touch of a copper glow and a nice, three centimetre tall white head. Aroma of fresh grassy hops with some lemon and citrus along with a bit of tropical fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy, perfumey and definitely tropical-fruit based hops with some good malt, a little earth and a touch of metal on the very end. Aftertaste shows a nice balance along with a slightly pungent and bitter finish predominantly from the hops, but also with some extra alcohol. Overall, a pretty good beer with nice flavours and a good layering of tastes. I sampled this sixteen ounce can purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$2,29 sampled at home in Washington on 01-April-2016.
