Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

Bomber from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a fizzy medium sized head that fades to nothing almost immediately. I’ve gotten longer lasting head from Coca-Cola. Yeesh. Aroma of sweet, grainy caramel malts with a bit of diacetyl. The taste is grainy malts, caramel, leafy hops, mild diacetyl, bitter vegetal finish. Thin-medium bodied. Not a good effort.

Aroma of apple, citrus hops, some faint resin and metallic notes. The taste is bitter citrus hops and apples. Not much maltiness to speak of. Medium bodied.

Dark chocolate and charcoal nose. Dark mahogany, medium beige, some lacing head. Charcoal and dry raisins. Ends ashy. Solid offering, but doesn’t stand out. Pretty good value for the price.

Hay and tea nose. Clear yellow, thin head. Light graininess that builds and fades. Refreshing and quaffable. Not without flavor, but weak, even for a tame style. Certainly an appropriate summer seasonal.

Bomber pours a nice looking mahogany with tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, a touch of chocolate, dark fruity esters and earthiness. It offers up pleasing flavors of dark roasted malts and some chocolate brownie and then moving into a bit of dark chocolate, a firm layer of earthiness, some molasses and a touch of spicy black licorice near the finish. Tasty brew!

Bomber from the brewpub. Pours light hazy copper with a good foamy off-white head. Very malty aroma. Flavor is medium roast malt with nice dose of something like noble hop. It’s just more sweet than bitter, but it’s near balanced. Not sticky. Very tasty and drinkable. Which is a lot of praise from me.
