Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

Deep brown coloured body, slightly muddy with a super-thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some more odd pit fruits. Light-bodied; Strong coffee and roasted malt flavours come through with nuts, pecans and a touch of figs. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a light smokey flavour in addition to a very light acidic taste. Overall, a good porter - fairly simplistic and very mild in comparison to others. I’d say to pass on this, but if you can’t find it often, then give it a shot. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BottleWorks in Seattle, Washington on 11-November-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-May-2009.

Bomber pours deep darkness with brown edges and thin mocha head. The aroma has an assertive smoke note (that was unexpected to me) to go along with hints of molasses, some chocolate, burnt malts and a bit of wood. Wow, these notes go nicely together. Smells of yum. The taste feels thin but brings in persistent mild smokiness with some burnt malts, roasted malts and a mild astringent malt drying sensation. Nice mildly smoky interpretation. I wasn’t expecting it to be this tasty.

This one came to me from a friend who had been staying out west for a little while. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a rich ruby-caramel color with a very large tan head. The aroma was a nice mix of fruity citrus and grapefruit. The flavor was tangy caramel, vague fruity and hints of nut, brown sugar and roasty malts. Slightly yeasty underneath. a bit chewy and syrupy. The finish was tangy and nutty. Decent.

Bottle. Bronish beer with no head. Sweet malt, caramel, light alcohol aroma with light citrus backing. Caramel, malt flavor with enough hops to keep things fresh tasting. Medium body. Lingering malt and light backing pine. Hops keep things lively, but are in background. Alcohol present in aroma, but light and well hidden in flavor.

22oz Bottle pours out a hazy gold topped with a white had. A nice body off light hops, grain and some malt. Also had a little sweetness on it.
