Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.
Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

Bottle: Hazy copper brown color with a very small white head. Nose is hoppy and a bit sour, some maltiness. Taste is softer citrus hops leaving a wet mouthful. Malty and rye? A little sour and grainy presence turned me off.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light roasted notes, as well as alcohol and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and alcohol, as well as light notes of hops, leading to a medium bitter end. The alcohol burns the side of the tongue.

Bottle pours a dark redish brown with sandy colored head and traces of lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts and a slight sour note. Like a Porter. Flavor is a bit astringent, roasted and the ABV is apparent but not overpowering. LIvely carbomation. No stlye listed but either a porter or a dark brown ale. Not bad.

On tap at Brewery/Restaurant. Kind of a dark copper color with thin head. The aroma was tough to pick up. Maybe it’s the restaurant and HVAC breeze. I could just pick up some citrus hops. Really nothing else. The taste was bright grapefruit hops and some pine. It wasn’t a lot of hops for an IPA and there really wasn’t the OG I expect out of an IPA either. There was some light maltiness to help balance out the hop side. From the taste it seems more like a Pale. A little weak for an IPA. Regardless, tasty beer.

Bottle Pours a slightly hazy light orange/amber. Small quick head and spotty lacing. Sweet fruity aroma. Lots of notes I can’t put my finger on.l raisons, spices, orange peel. Flavor is not quite so complex, a bit sour and thin. Slightly swet woody and very little hop bitterness. Moderate feel. Low carbonation. Interesting.

I thought I recognized the smell/taste as chamomile, and the brewer confirmed it for me.Overpowering and unbalanced.
