Trocken malzgier Beginn mit alkoholischem Touch. Durch die Trockenheit bleibt das Bier einfach, Aromen werden von der Ausbreitung abgehalten. Geringe Würzigkeit, minimal herb, kein Nachgeschmack. 9/8/8/7/8/7

Alcohol free beer by this classic Netherlands-Limburg brewery, at an outdoors café in pittoresque little Afsnee near Ghent. Snow white, thick, closed, regularly shaped head, clear and warm ‘old gold’ robe with fierce fizz throughout. Aroma of wet cotton, old biscuit, white paper, dough, white bread, bubblegum, plastic, straw. Sweet onset, typical cereally sweetness like in a standard pale lager but sweeter than that, with a lively, fizzy carbonation and evidently thin, bit soapy mouthfeel, yet feeling a tad fuller than usual for an (as good as) alcohol free pale lager. The simple sweet graininess, with a slight sourish edge, even gains a certain degree of ‘caramelliness’ though never becomes too sweet; finish adds a dash of hayish hop bitterness, but unfortunately also a very plastic- and cotton-like effect. Everything went relatively well up till then, this has a bit more body and taste to it than average in this segment, but the artificial side flavours make it less enjoyable than it could have been – though it did quench the thirst on a hot afternoon on the banks of the Leie river.
