Bottle, undated, from Jtclockwork, drunk 11/17/16. Thanks, James.
Good appearance, especially for a barrel aged beer, with a clear, pale-copper body and large, well-retained, off-white head.
Big red wine in the nose. Wow, that’s powerful. Notes of cranberry, rose, hibiscus and light chalk give way to toasted oak and vanilla. Light appke-peach esters are about as Belgian as it gets. No alcohol or flaw.
Fruity up front with orange rind, hibiscus and light chalk. It quickly becomes VERY oaky with a near dominant toasted character. The carbonation is tight and engaging, the beer well-attenuated, but it’s just all barrel here. Light alcohol as well, with lots of wood and acidity lingering. Not saison like in the least but it’s well-made, just way over-barreled.
