Description
Urban Artifact is Ohio’s home for sour beer; located in the historic St. Patrick’s church in Cincinnati. With a special emphasis on fruit beers, they have created a niche with their signature overfruited Midwest Fruit Tart style focusing on balance, drinkability, and real fruit. Brewing a bevy of different sour beers, from the standard German style gose, to the exotic spontaneously fermented barrel aged sour with a wide variety of different fruits, there is sure to be something new and exciting to explore. We are currently on pace to use over 400,000 lbs of real fruit this year alone!

Our Northside, Cincinnati taproom is open seven days a week, with food service provided by Wildfire Pizza Kitchen. We host live music five nights a week at the Radio Artifact Live stage, and make the historic church sanctuary, The Reliquary, available for receptions and events.

Radio Artifact, the Urban Artifact hosted independent music radio, can be listened to on 91.7FM HD2 in Cincinnati or live streaming online at radioartifact.com

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/11/2019. Pours opaquely murky/hazy deep orange/green/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky orange head with great retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy apricots, peach, fruit fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of peppercorn, vanilla, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of apricots, fruity/acidic yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/tart/tangy apricots, peach, fruit fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of peppercorn, vanilla, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy apricots, fruity/acidic yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/tart/tangy apricots, peach, fruit fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of apricots, fruity/acidic yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sourness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/acidic/tangy/tannic, and lightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited kettle sour. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of apricots, fruity/acidic yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Fantastic balance of super juicy/jammy apricots and Lacto complexity; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Mild residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected. Enormous amounts of fruit presence.

Sampled from the tap at GTMW 2019. Pours a deep purple, near clear with a pine head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a tart earthy boysenberry with light grains and light funk supporting. Flavor has creamy sweet grains, tart earthy boysenberry and a bit of earthiness underlying.

Pours a deep red with a minimal head. It smells of sour raspberries and a little cocoa. The flavor is on the sour side with loads of raspberries and subdued chocolate along with some malty sweetness. It's light to medium bodied and pretty good.

Great funky strawberry nose. Bit lighter than expected but comes with the aging I guess. Fruity strawberry juice still.

Smells like spicy cucumbers. Maybe I should have aged this can 🤔. I like it cause it's fucking weird though! Pickle comes out eventually. Maybe. Who knows. It's a damn pickle beer.

Can. Pours bright red. Raspberry, deep sweet raspberry syrup stuff, little funk, little minerally, little vanilla. Good body. Excellent.

Urban Artifact Pickle Gose with a shitload of jalapeno. (Might be other peppers involved, but the profile is pure picked jalapenos.) Peppers drown out pretty much any other aspect of the beer, which is somewhat impressive, considering how much cucumber comes forward in the original version. Pure novelty, worth trying. Once.
