Description
The Columbus Brewing Company was originally founded in 1830. In 1988, the name was once again chosen to resurrect the proud brewing heritage of its namesake.
Our Brewmaster brings years of experience to the brewery including an apprenticeship with a German-trained Brewmaster, completed the Master Brewers progam at U.C. Davis, and brewing at several breweries throughout North America.
We are dedicated to exploring the flavors of American hops, subtleties of German-style lagers, the intensity of barrel-aged beers & everything in between.

On tap at the Brew Kettle. This beer is a fairly clear gold with a minimal head. Aromas if honey and resin with a boozy edge to them. Flavor has none of the resin, though. It starts out sweet (honey) heads to hoppy (apricot and fruit) and ends hot (booze). This is a pretty nice beer to have on tap in March when winter is hanging on.

Bottle. Pour is an ugly dingy gold brown and supports a pretty large frothy head. Aromas are earthy and resiny hops with a little bit of peach and graininess. Flavor is fairly fruity... Which is interesting. I might have guessed this had peaches added to the brewing process, which has me a bit confused for the style, but I like it. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical on this when it poured out of the bottle, but it is a solid and interesting IPA.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered orange-brown-tan body, with a steady, creamy off-white head. Medium to full bodied, a pretty well done IPA. Relatively hop forward, with a nice balance from the creamy yeast tones. Straightforward, but a quality example.

64oz growler pours a hazy orange with some clumpy, lacing white head. Nose is orange peel, zippy chives, some onion, malt, a little honey. Smells a bit like watered down HopSlam. Flavors of honey, lime zest, orange, malt, some garlic. Sweet, medium bodied finish.

Received as part of my Santa package. Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is not strong, but pleasant with notes of grapefruit, pine, tropical fruits. Flavor is about the same, vaquely passionfruity. Little sweetness, light bitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat watery, but otherwise a nice offering.

12oz bottle. Better than I expected straight up off the bat, well hopped, nice grapefruit cascade feel. Unfiltered orange-brown, greyed..murky. Thin, steady off-white head. Earthy and full bodied, pretty rich for a beer of 5.3%. Soapy and astringent after awhile, would really benefit from filtration...too heavy and yeasty to really session. Certainly a decent offering.

On draught at the Cousin Eddie release party at Bobβs Bar. The beer is a hazy dark amber-orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus and malt. Medium to full body with a resiny hops character and notes of malt and fruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering piney hops aftertaste. Good beer all around.

On cask at the Cousin Eddie release party at Bobβs Bar. Pours dark brownish black with a thin and foamy khaki head that evaporates steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. Medium-bodied with a creamy character and flavors of vanilla coffee, malt and chocolate. The finish is sweet with a vanilla finish. Pretty good overall.

12oz bottle scooped up in Columbus. Unfiltered orange-amber. Thin head, fades to an oily brim. Rather pleasant herbal tinged malty aroma, touch of cinnamon, amber malt. Kind of an odd one, very fruitcake. The ginger is certainly there, not bitter, but fruity. Not really one to recommend, but a decent enough beer.
